Kavala (regional Unit)
Kavala ( el, Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Καβάλας, ''Perifereiakí Enótita Kaválas'') is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of East Macedonia and Thrace. Its capital is the city of Kavala. Kavala regional unit is the easternmost within the geographical region of Macedonia. Geography The Pangaio mountains, reaching 1,957 m are situated in the west. The neighbouring regional units are Serres to the west, Drama to the north and Xanthi to the east. The river Nestos flows along the eastern border. Arable lands are located along the coastline, in the north and in the east. The regional unit has a predominantly Mediterranean climate. Administration The regional unit Kavala is subdivided into three municipalities. Filippoi (Greek: , ''Philippi''), is a village and a former municipality in the Kavala regional unit, East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece Greece,, or , romanized: ', officially the Hellenic Republic, is a country in Southeast Europe. Eleftheres
Eleftheres ( el, Ελευθερές) is a village and a former municipality in the Kavala regional unit, East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Pangaio, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 150.555 km2. The seat of the municipality was Nea Peramos. The other villages in this municipal unit are Agios Andreas, Eleftheres, Elaiochori, Folia, Myrtofyto and Nea Iraklitsa. According to the statistics of Vasil Kanchov ("Macedonia, Ethnography and Statistics"), 300 Greek Christians and 300 Greek Muslims lived in the village in 1900. Elaiochori, Kavala
Elaiochori ( el, Ελαιοχώρι ), is a village and part of the municipal unit of Eleftheres in the southwest of the Kavala regional unit, Greece. Population 1,222 (2011). The Olive and Oil Museum is located in the village. Name The Greek name of the village, Ελαιοχώρι, means ''village of olive trees''.
