Ikaria ( el, Περιφερειακή ενότητα Ικαρίας) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of North Aegean. The regional unit covers the island of Ikaria and the small archipelago Fournoi Korseon, in the Aegean Sea. Administration As a part of the 2011 Kallikratis government reform, the regional unit Ikaria was created out of part of the former Samos Prefecture. It is subdivided into 2 municipalities. Raches ( el, Ράχες) is a village and a former municipality on the island of Ikaria, North Aegean, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Ikaria, of which it is a municipal unit. With a population of 2,163 inhabitants (2011 census) and a land area of 101.768 km2, it is the largest in area, smallest in population, and therefore the least densely populated of the three municipal units on Icaria. Perdiki (Greek: Περδίκη) is a small village in the northeastern corner of the Greek island of Icaria. Perched up in the mountains, it houses fewer than 200 residentsPopulation census of 2011. Karkinagri
Karkinagri (''Καρκινάγρι'') is a village near the southwestern tip of the Aegean Sea, Aegean island of Ikaria, Greece. It has about 300 permanent residents. Primarily a fishing village, it is surrounded by rocks and by the Atheras mountain range. Although tourism has developed on the island, the area was formerly unsafe during times of war. In the past Ikarians built their houses out of rocks to disguise themselves from pirates. Karkinagri was too close to the shore to even be considered a possibility for inhabitance, as any sign of a fire would immediately attract the unwanted attention of pirates. Karavostamo
Karavostamo ( el, Καραβόσταμο) is a seaside village on the island of Ikaria, Greece. It is composed of an upper and lower village and is situated in the northern part of the island east of the municipal unit of Evdilos. It has 499 inhabitants (2011). It has small houses amphitheatrically built, two churches, several chapels, nursery, primary school, modern oil press, streams, old watermills, and beaches. The traditional "Pigi tou Halika," Halika Spring, stands just off the main road. Historically it was the central meeting place of the villagers, where they would fill their pitchers with water, wash their clothes, rest, and discuss village issues. In the upper village with the farm houses surrounded by terraces, some cultivated and some not, villagers dry figs in the sun, make onion strings for winter usage, and shell and dry nuts and almonds. Fournoi Korseon ( el, Φούρνοι Κορσέων), more commonly simply Fournoi ( el, Φούρνοι), anciently known as Corsiae or Korsiai ( grc, Κορσίαι), Corseae or Korseai (Κορσεαί), Corsia or Korsia (Κορσία), and Corassiae (Κορασσίαι), form a complex or archipelago of small Greek islands that lie between Ikaria, Samos and Patmos in Ikaria regional unit, North Aegean region. Evdilos
Evdilos (Greek: Εύδηλος) is a village and a former municipality in the central part of the island of Ikaria, North Aegean, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Ikaria, of which it is a municipal unit. 40 km northwest of Agios Kirykos. Its name means visible and freely rendered open horizon. It is a new seaside settlement built after 1830 when piracy was completely stamped out on the island. Evdilos was the first capital of the island. Today it is the second port and the center of northern, central, and western Ikaria. Together with other settlements, it forms the municipal unit of Evdilos and had 2,749 permanent inhabitants at the 2011 census.
