Florina (regional Unit)
Florina ( el, Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Φλώρινας, ''Perifereiakí Enótita Flórinas'') is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Western Macedonia, in the geographic region of Macedonia, Greece. Its capital is the town of Florina with a population of around 49.500 (2019) Geography Florina borders the regional units of Pella to the east, Kozani to the south and Kastoriá to the southwest. At the Greek international borders, it is adjacent to Albania (Korçë County) to the west, North Macedonia (Bitola and Resen municipalities) to the north and Lake Prespa to the northwest, where the two borders cross each other. Lake Vegoritida is situated in the east. Mountains in the regional unit include Verno (), Varnous () and Voras (). Ano Ydroussa
Ano Ydroussa ( el, Άνω Υδρούσσα, before 1928: Άνω Κόττορι - ''Ano Kottori'') is a village in Florina (regional unit), Florina regional unit, Western Macedonia, Greece. The village in Ottoman Turkish was called ''Yukarı Kotor''. In statistics gathered by Vasil Kanchov in 1900, Ano Kottori was populated by 60 Christian Albanians and 168 Bulgarians. Kanchov wrote that Christian Albanians of the late Ottoman period in Ano Kottori were increasingly being assimilated by its Bulgarian population. In the early twentieth century, Kato Kotori was involved with the Bulgarian national movement. Ano Idrousa had 333 inhabitants in 1981. In fieldwork done by Riki Van Boeschoten in late 1993, Ano Idrousa was populated by Slavic speakers of Greek Macedonia, Slavophones and Arvanites. Itea, Florina
Itea ( el, Ιτέα, before 1926: Βύρμπενη - ''Vyrmpeni''; mk, Врбени, translit=Vrbeni; bg, Върбени or Долно Върбени, translit=Varbeni or ), is a village and a community of the Florina municipality. Before the 2011 local government reform it was a part of the municipality of Meliti, of which it was a municipal district. The 2011 census recorded 542 residents in the village. The community of Itea covers an area of 9.799 km2. History In 1845 the Russian slavist Victor Grigorovich recorded ''Verbini'' as Bulgarian village. Johann Georg von Hahn in his map from 1861 marked the village as Bulgarian, too. In the book “Ethnographie des Vilayets d'Adrianople, de Monastir et de Salonique”, published in Constantinople in 1878, that reflects the statistics of the male population in 1873, Dolno Vrbeni was noted as a village with 200 households and 615 Bulgarian inhabitants. Florina ( el, Φλώρινα, ''Flórina''; known also by some alternative names) is a town and municipality in the mountainous northwestern Macedonia, Greece. Its motto is, 'Where Greece begins'. The town of Florina is the capital of the Florina regional unit and also the seat of the eponymous municipality. It belongs to the administrative region of Western Macedonia. The town's population is 17,686 people (2011 census). It is in a wooded valley about south of the international border of Greece with the Republic of North Macedonia. Flampouro ( el, Φλάμπουρο, before 1928: Νεγοβάνη - ''Negovani''; sq, Negovan; rup, Niguvanlji) is a village in the central part of Florina regional unit, northern Greece, part of the Perasma municipal unit. History Negovani was established between 1860/1861. It was the second village after Belkameni within the area to be founded by an Albanian (Arvanite) population along with some Aromanians and a few Greeks. Filotas ( el, Φιλώτας, before 1927: Τσαλτζιλάρ - ''Tsaltzilar''; bg, Чалджиево, ''Chaldzhievo'') is a village and a former municipality in Florina regional unit, West Macedonia, Greece.
