Shigeru Mizuki
was a Japanese manga artist and historian, best known for his manga series ''GeGeGe no Kitarō''. Born in a hospital in Osaka and raised in the city of Sakaiminato, Tottori, he later moved to Chōfu, Tokyo where he remained until his death. His pen-name, Mizuki, comes from the time when he managed an inn called 'Mizuki Manor' while he drew pictures for kamishibai. A specialist in stories of Yōkai (traditional Japanese monsters, ghouls, and goblins), he is considered a master of the genre. Mizuki was also a noted historian, publishing works relating to world history, Japanese history, and his own World War II experience. Life Mizuki was born Shigeru Mura (武良 茂 ''Mura Shigeru'') in the city of Osaka, the second of three sons. Kimio Yanagisawa
is a Japanese manga artist. His real name is pronounced the same way, but is written with the kanji . He graduated from Niigata Prefectural Muramatsu High School two years prior to Yoshifumi Kondō. After graduation, he attended Wakō University where he studied fine arts. In 1972, Yanagisawa won an honorable mention in the 4th Tezuka Shō Manga Story contest for his story ''Makeru na Kisaburō'' (submitted under his real name). His contemporary, Kazuhito Kurosaki, also won second place in the same contest. In 1978, he won the 3rd Kodansha Manga Award for shōnen for ''Tonda Couple is a shōnen manga series by Kimio Yanagisawa. It won the 1979 Kodansha Manga Award for shōnen. Akio Chiba
was a Japanese manga artist. Early life On 29 January 1943, Chiba was born in Shenyang, Manchukuo (now part Liaoning, China). His father worked in a paper factory in China. Chiba had two brothers, Tetsuya Chiba and Shigeyuki Chiba. At the end of the Sino-Japanese War, Chiba's family lived in the attic of a work-acquaintance of his father until they could find a way to get back to Japan. Career Chiba was known for publishing his works in both shōnen and shōjo magazines. Chiba made his professional debut in 1967 with his manga ''Sabu to Chibi'' while working as an assistant to his older brother, Tetsuya. In 1977, he won the 22nd Shogakukan Manga Award for shōnen for his work on ''Captain'' and '' Play Ball''. Personal On 13 September 1984, Chiba committed suicide due to issues related to bipolar disorder. He was 41 years old. is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Akio Chiba. It was serialized in Shueisha's ''shōnen'' manga magazine ''Weekly Shōnen Jump'' from 1973 to 1978, with its chapters collected in twenty-two ''tankōbon'' volumes. The manga was adapted into an anime television series produced by Magic Bus and Eiken, which aired on the anime satellite television network Animax from July to September 2005 and a second season from January to March 2006. Buronson
, known by the pen names and , is a Japanese manga writer. Making his debut in 1972, he first found success with the hardboiled detective manga series ''Doberman Deka'' (1975–1979) alongside illustrator Shinji Hiramatsu. He is best-known for creating the post-apocalyptic martial arts series ''Fist of the North Star'' (1983–1988) with artist Tetsuo Hara, which is one of the List of best-selling manga, best-selling manga in history with over 100 million copies in circulation. Barefoot Gen
is a Japanese historical manga series by Keiji Nakazawa. Loosely based on Nakazawa's own experiences as a Hiroshima survivor, the series begins in 1945 in and around Hiroshima, Japan, where the six-year-old boy Gen Nakaoka lives with his family. After Hiroshima is destroyed by atomic bombing, Gen and other survivors are left to deal with the aftermath. It ran in several magazines, including ''Weekly Shōnen Jump'', from 1973 to 1987.
