Culcheth
Culcheth is a village in the Borough of Warrington, ceremonial county of Cheshire and historic county of Lancashire, England, six miles (10 km) north-east of Warrington town centre; it is the principal settlement in Culcheth and Glazebury civil parish. Culcheth is primarily residential, with a large village green at its heart where the annual Community Day is held. The old railway line is now known as Culcheth Linear Park. History On Saxon maps showing South Lancashire the village is marked as "Calchuth" or "Celchyth." On these very early maps and deeds the name is also written as "Kilcheth", "Kylchith" and "Kilshaw." It is derived from the Brittonic "cil" and "coed", 'at the edge of a wood,' 'black wood' or 'retreat in a wood'. Birchwood Community High School
Birchwood Community High School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form with academy status, located in the Birchwood area of Warrington in the English county of Cheshire. Previously a community school administered by Warrington Borough Council, Birchwood Community High School converted to academy status on 1 July 2013. However, the school continues to coordinate with Warrington Borough Council regarding its admissions. Birchwood Community High School offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils, while students in the sixth form (named Birchwood College) have the option to study from a range of A-levels and further BTECs. Beamont Collegiate Academy (formerly William Beamont Community High School) is a mixed secondary school in the Orford area of Warrington, Cheshire, England. The school is named after William Beamont, a Victorian philanthropist and the first mayor of Warrington. Previously a community school administered by Warrington Borough Council, William Beamont Community High School converted to academy status in 2013 and was renamed Beamont Collegiate Academy. The school is now sponsored by Warrington Collegiate, however the school continues to coordinate with Warrington Borough Council regarding its admissions. Winwick, Cheshire
Winwick is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Warrington, Cheshire, England. Located within the historic boundaries of Lancashire, it is situated about three miles north of Warrington town centre, nearby is junction 22 of the M6 and Junction 9 of the M62. Winwick also borders Newton-le-Willows and Burtonwood. According to the 2001 Census, the civil parish had a population of 4,366. History King Oswald of Northumbria is believed to have been killed in the Winwick area and the parish church, dedicated to him, was reputedly located with guidance from the "Winwick Pig", a carving of which can still be seen on the church wall. Richard Sherlock was the incumbent at Winwick for some thirty years in the seventeenth century, and Thomas Wilson, Bishop of Sodor and Man, spent his early years in the care of Sherlock at Winwick. Stretton, Warrington
Stretton is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Warrington, Cheshire, England. The parish includes the village of Lower Stretton. It is at the very southern tip of Warrington, about south of the town centre. It has a large hotel (Park Royal Hotel) and is the site of Warrington's private hospital, run by Spire Healthcare. The village is near junction 10 of the M56 motorway. The Royal Navy Air Station HMS Blackcap existed at Stretton between June 1942 and November 1958. Stretton means "settlement on a Roman Road" (from the Old English stræt and tun). In this case the road ran Northwich to Warrington. Stockton Heath is a civil parish and suburb of Warrington, in the Borough of Warrington, Cheshire, England. It is located to the north of the Bridgewater Canal and to the south of the Manchester Ship Canal, which divides Stockton Heath from Latchford and north Warrington. It has a total resident population of 6,396. Victoria Square is at the centre of Stockton Heath and is on the crossroads of the A49 and A56. Until the 1970s, the Victoria Hotel stood on this square but its location has been redeveloped. Hollins Green is a village on the eastern edge of Warrington, in the Warrington district, in the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England, close to Glaze Brook, the boundary with Salford, in the civil parish of Rixton-with-Glazebrook; the ecclesiastical parish is Hollinfare. Orford, Cheshire
Orford is a suburb of Warrington, in the Warrington district, in the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. Originally a small area north of the township of Warrington, it is now a large area between the town centre and the M62, incorporating other small communities, such as Longford. Orford area had a population of 10,950 at the 2001 census. Orford Hall was demolished in the 1930s after the grounds were given to the town for Orford Park. Jubilee Park, a £30m project providing community and sporting facilities on former waste land between the park and Winwick Road, opened May 2012. Penketh is a civil parish and suburb of Warrington in the Borough of Warrington, Cheshire, England. It is located about west of Warrington town centre. It has a population of 8,699. It is in the historic county of Cheshire. The name is derived from two Brythonic words: *''penno-'' (head) and *''kēto-'' (trees) (Welsh ''pen coed''); suggesting that the parish was at one time on the outskirts of a forest. The emblem/badge of Penketh is three kingfishers. History Penketh was originally part of Prescot parish but became a chapelry and then a separate parish.
