London Borough Of Tower Hamlets
The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is a London boroughs, London borough covering much of the traditional East End of London, East End. It was formed in 1965 from the merger of the former Metropolitan boroughs of the County of London, metropolitan boroughs of Metropolitan Borough of Stepney, Stepney, Metropolitan Borough of Poplar, Poplar, and Metropolitan Borough of Bethnal Green, Bethnal Green. 'Tower Hamlets' was originally an alternative name for the historic Tower division, Tower Division; the area of south-east Middlesex, focused on (but not limited to) the area of the modern borough, which owed military service to the Tower of London. The borough lies on the north bank of the River Thames immediately east of the City of London, and includes much of the redeveloped London Docklands, Docklands area. Mulberry UTC is a university technical college in Old Ford, London, which opened in September 2017. The school is part of the Mulberry Schools Trust, a multi-academy trust operating in Tower Hamlets. The UTC's sponsors are Goldsmiths (University of London), Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barts Health NHS Trust, the British Film Institute and the National Theatre. The Workers' Educational Association (WEA), founded in 1903, is the UK's largest voluntary sector provider of adult education and one of Britain's biggest charities. The WEA is a democratic and voluntary adult education movement. It delivers learning throughout England and Scotland. There was a related but independent WEA Cymru covering Wales, though it is now known as Adult Learning Wales since a merger in 2015 with YMCA Wales Community College. East London Arts & Music (also known as ELAM) is a free school sixth form located in Bromley-by-Bow in East London, England. History Established in 2014, ELAM is for students aged 16 to 19 who wish to pursue a career in music, games design or film and TV. In April 2017 ELAM moved into its permanent home in Bromley-by-Bow, East London. Prior to this ELAM was based at School 21 in Stratford. Wapping High School
Wapping () is a district in East London in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Wapping's position, on the north bank of the River Thames, has given it a strong maritime character, which it retains through its riverside public houses and steps, such as the Prospect of Whitby and Wapping Stairs. It also has a Royal Navy shore establishment base on the riverfront called HMS President and home to Tobacco Dock and King Edward Memorial Park. Many of the original buildings were demolished during the construction of the London Docks and Wapping was further seriously damaged during the Blitz. As the London Docklands declined after the Second World War, the area became run down, with the great warehouses left empty.
