City Of Salford
The City of Salford () is a metropolitan borough within Greater Manchester, England. The borough is named after its main settlement, Salford. The borough covers the towns of Eccles, Swinton, Walkden and Pendlebury, as well as the villages and suburbs of Monton, Little Hulton, Boothstown, Ellenbrook, Clifton, Cadishead, Pendleton, Winton and Worsley. The borough has a population of 270,000, and is administered from the Salford Civic Centre in Swinton. Salford is the historic centre of the Salford Hundred an ancient subdivision of Lancashire. Ellenbrook, Greater Manchester
Ellenbrook is a suburb of Worsley, in the City of Salford in Greater Manchester, England. Ellenbrook is west of Manchester, west of Salford and south of Bolton. Historically a part of Lancashire, it is close to Astley, Mosley Common and Walkden, by the East Lancashire Road. History Etymology The origin of the first element of the name is unknown, but the second element is certainly from Old English ''broc'', a brook or stream. Ellenbrook is situated by the Ellen Brook which becomes the Stirrup Brook in Boothstown. Co-op Academy Walkden
Co-op Academy Walkden is a secondary school in Walkden, Greater Manchester. Formerly on Birch Road, the school is now located on Old Clough Lane, and serves Walkden, Worsley, Linnyshaw, Roe Green, Ellenbrook and Boothstown. In September 2011, the school moved into a new building off Old Clough Lane as part of the government's BSF (Building Schools for the Future) agenda, a process whose early planning stages had begun in November 2006. The culmination of that work is a building that offers accommodation for 1,500 pupils. The Co-op Academy Swinton is in Greater Manchester, England. Although named ''The Swinton High School'' in September 1988 when ''Wardley High School'' and ''Pendlebury High School'' merged, forming a single comprehensive school for pupils aged 11 to 16, on one site located half a mile from Swinton town centre. Weaste () is a suburb in the City of Salford, Greater Manchester, England. In 2014, Weaste and Seedley ward had a population of 12,616. History Historically in Lancashire, it is an industrial area, with many industrial estates. The A57 (Eccles New Road) passes through Weaste, which lies close to the M602 motorway. Weaste is north of Salford Quays. The name is from Old French ''waste'' meaning "common land, waste". Wardley is a suburban area of the City of Salford, in Greater Manchester, England. It borders Linnyshaw, Walkden and Swinton. Transport The A580 "East Lancashire Road" passes through the area, and also links to the M61 motorway, of which Wardley is the start of. Irlams O' Th' Height
Irlams o' th' Height is a suburb of Salford, Greater Manchester, England. It is located on top of the Irwell Valley, on higher ground than Pendleton, hence the reference to ''The Height''. The first part of the name derives from the Irlam family that ran the Pack Horse Inn in the 17th and 18th centuries. It was first recorded in the parish of Eccles in 1180. The village became prosperous in the 19th century due to the Industrial Revolution and became a well-established community of handloom weavers.
