Machang (town)
Machang ( Jawi: ماچڠ, th, มาจัง, Chinese: 马樟) is a town in Machang District, Kelantan, Malaysia. It is a home to one of the main campuses of Universiti Teknologi MARA. History Machang originated as a village of the same name, Kampung Machang. It was opened in 1880 by a group of settlers from Pasir Tumboh, Kota Bharu led by Senik Awang Kecik. On its inception, the territory was mainly economically agrarian with some of the population involved in commerce. Sekolah Menengah Sains Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra ( en, Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra Science Secondary School; abbreviated SMSTMFP; previously known as ''Sekolah Menengah Sains Kelantan'' (1973–1986) and ''Sekolah Menengah Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra'' (1986–1995)) is a premier government-funded secondary boarding school (Sekolah Berasrama Penuh) in Pengkalan Chepa in the state of Kelantan, Malaysia, for selected students aged thirteen to seventeen. Its students bear the name Farisian. The school is named after Tengku Muhammad Faris Petra, Kelantanese prince (later become Sultan of Kelantan). Established in 1973 under the Second Malaysia Plan in accordance of Malaysian New Economic Policy, the school is located about 9 km northeast of the state capital, Kota Bharu and about 1.5 km southeast of the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport. Pasir Mas (Jawi: ڤاسير مس, Kelantanese: ''Pasey Mah'') is a town in Pasir Mas District, in north-western Kelantan, Malaysia. Pasir Mas is Kelantan's second largest city by population (230,424 in 2020 census). History According to legend, this area which is now known as Pasir Mas was first opened up by Che Leh Ismail who was also known as Che Leh Tok Pendekar. Che Leh Ismail was forced to move to Pasir Mas from Kota Bharu when his land was taken over by the Sultan to build his palace. During that time, a religious teacher from Bachok came to teach the Quran to the villagers in Pasir Mas. The religious teacher returned to Bachok after his teachings were completed. However, a few days after the religious teacher returned to Bachok, three pots of gold suddenly appeared in some bushes. The pots of gold then rolled into a pond at the fringe of the bushes.
