The London Borough of Havering () in East London, England, forms part of Outer London. It has a population of 259,552 inhabitants; the principal town is Romford, while other communities are Hornchurch, Upminster, Collier Row and Rainham. The borough is mainly suburban, with large areas of protected open space. Romford is a major retail and night time entertainment centre, and to the south the borough extends into the London Riverside redevelopment area of the Thames Gateway. The name Havering is a reference to the Royal Liberty of Havering which occupied the area for several centuries. The local authority is Havering London Borough Council. Harris Academy Rainham (formerly ''The Chafford School'') is a mixed secondary school with academy status located in the London Borough of Havering in Rainham, London, England. History In a 2009 Ofsted report, Chafford School was described as a good and improving school and many areas of its work were judged to be outstanding. As a result, it was oversubscribed on an annual basis and Ofsted noted that its popularity was growing. However, a subsequent Ofsted inspection in June 2015 determined that the school required improvement in all areas. Following several years of declining results and an adverse Ofsted inspection it was announced at the beginning of 2016 that The Chafford School would join The Harris Federation of Schools in September 2016. Havering College of Further and Higher Education is a college founded in 1947 in the London Borough of Havering that provides part-time and full-time education to students aged 14+. History Following the introduction of the Education Act 1944, the Essex Education Committee acquired the majority of the Nelmes Estate in Hornchurch, including Victorian era Ardleigh House and surrounding 15 acres of land. Ardleigh House was initially used as a community and youth centre, and as a centre for part-time day release courses. The facilities were very basic, confined to upstairs rooms, and allowed only for basic instruction. Sanders School
The Sanders Draper School is a mixed-gender secondary school for students aged between 11 and 16 located in Hornchurch, London Borough of Havering, UK. In September 2018 Mr Brooks took over as Headteacher and the school joined Success For All Educational Trust (SFAET) and so worked in partnership with Redden Court and Royal Liberty.
