Reality Television
Reality television is a genre of television programming that documents purportedly unscripted real-life situations, often starring unfamiliar people rather than professional actors. Reality television emerged as a distinct genre in the early 1990s with shows such as '' The Real World'', then achieved prominence in the early 2000s with the success of the series '' Survivor'', '' Idols'', and '' Big Brother'', all of which became global franchises. Emergency Vets
''Emergency Vets'' is a reality television series that airs on the U.S. cable network Animal Planet. First aired in 1998, it depicts the working and outside lives of the veterinarians at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital in Denver, Colorado, USA, plus the animals that they treat. At its peak of popularity, ''Emergency Vets'' alternated with ''The Crocodile Hunter'' as Animal Planet's most popular show. The show stopped first-run production because Alameda East was occupied with building and eventually moving into a new facility in Denver. In 2004, a new documentary called ''E-Vets: The Cutting Edge'' aired on Animal Planet, showing the changes in Alameda East Veterinary Hospital since the show's final episode. ''Jamie's Kitchen'' is a five-part British documentary television series that aired on Channel 4 from 5 November to 10 December 2002. It follows chef Jamie Oliver as he attempts to train a group of 15 disadvantaged youth, who will—if they complete the course—be offered jobs at Oliver's new restaurant Fifteen. The series was executive produced by Peter Moore for Talkback Productions, and has since spawned several others along similar lines. The show was cancelled due to low ratings. ''Fraternity Life'' is a reality television show that aired on MTV from February 26, 2003 to November 19, 2003. The show consisted of college boys pledging to become part of a fraternity. The show was a spin-off of '' Sorority Life''. First season The first season occurred at the University at Buffalo. It followed college students pledging for thSigma Chi Omegafraternity. The fraternity ended up getting in trouble for illegal hazing and breaking into the Buffalo Zoo. The fraternity has subsequently regained "on campus" status and is currently in "normal" standing with the University. ''American Chopper'' is an American reality television series that airs on Discovery Channel, produced by Pilgrim Films & Television. The series centers on Paul Teutul Sr. (frequently called ''Senior''), and his son Paul Teutul Jr. (also known as ''Paulie'' or simply ''Junior''), who manufacture custom chopper-style motorcycles. Orange County Choppers is in Newburgh, New York. The contrasting work and creative styles of the father-and-son team and their resulting verbal arguments were the series' hallmark until 2008 when an explosive argument led to Paul Jr.'s termination and departure to start a competing chopper company, Paul Jr. Designs. ''Sorority Life'' was a reality television show on MTV that aired from June 24, 2002, to November 19, 2003. The show consisted of girls pledging to become part of a sorority. Production The first season occurred at University of California, Davis. It followed 6 girls over 10 weeks as they pledged Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi, a 4-year-old Jewish sorority that was relatively unknown on campus at the time. The second season occurred at University at Buffalo. It followed 6 girls pledging for the Delta Xi Omega sorority. The third season occurred at the University of Southern California. It followed girls pledging Zeta Sigma Phi, an independent multicultural sorority on campus founded in 1994. It spawned musical acts O-Town, Da Band, Danity Kane, Day26, and Donnie Klang.
