Adult contemporary music (AC) is a form of radio-played popular music, ranging from 1960s vocal and 1970s soft rock music to predominantly ballad-heavy music of the present day, with varying degrees of easy listening, pop, soul, R&B, quiet storm and rock influence. Adult contemporary is generally a continuation of the easy listening and soft rock style that became popular in the 1960s and 1970s with some adjustments that reflect the evolution of pop/rock music. Adult contemporary tends to have lush, soothing and highly polished qualities where emphasis on melody and harmonies is accentuated. It is usually melodic enough to get a listener's attention, and is inoffensive and pleasurable enough to work well as background music. CFVM-FM
CFVM-FM is a French-language Canadian radio station located in Amqui, Quebec. Owned and operated by Bell Media, it broadcasts on 99.9 MHz with an effective radiated power of 23,800 watts ( class C1) using an omnidirectional antenna. Previously a station with an oldies format from " Boom" from 2005 to February 2009, the station has now an adult contemporary format and is part of the "Rouge FM" network which operates across Quebec and Eastern Ontario. Originally known as CFVM when it was on 1220 kHz, the station moved to FM in April 2003 after 23 years on AM. The new FM signal also replaced CFVM-1, a short-lived relay in nearby Causapscal which was operational from 1997 to 2003 on 1450 kHz; that facility was previously used by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a relay of what was then CBGA 1250, and is now CBGA-FM 102.1, in Matane. CHOW-FM
CHOW-FM is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts a community radio format branded as ''Radio Boréale'' on 105.3 FM in Amos, Quebec. Licensed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission in October 2007, the station was scheduled to launch in 2008, but it officially began broadcasting in 2009. CHOW is owned by Radio Boréale. The callsign CHOW was previously used by a radio station in Welland, Ontario from 1957 to 2005, now known as CIXL-FM. On October 29, 2009, CHOW received CRTC approval to increase transmitter power from 5,376 watts to 17,787 watts. The station is a member of the Association des radiodiffuseurs communautaires du Québec. CHGO-FM
CHGO-FM is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts at 104.3 FM in Val-d'Or, Quebec. Owned and operated by Arsenal Media, the station airs an active rock format branded as Capitale Rock. It also shares much of its programming with CJGO-FM in La Sarre, although the two stations each produce their own separate morning programs. The radio station originally began as CKVD 900, an AM station that was part of the Abitibi AM network since 1939 with CHAD Amos (now defunct) and CKRN Rouyn-Noranda (now CHOA-FM), until it was converted to FM in 1999. CHOA-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 96.5 FM in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. The station has an adult contemporary format branded as ''Wow 96.5''. Owned and operated by Arsenal Media, the station aired an adult contemporary format from its inception, both under independent branding and as an affiliate of Astral Media's RockDétente and Cogeco's Rythme FM networks. The station briefly adopted a modern rock format branded as ''Radio X'' after RNC Media acquired CHOI in Quebec City in 2006, but later reverted to the Couleur FM name and format, and was rebranded as ''Planète'' in 2008. Ici Radio-Canada Première (formerly Première Chaîne) is a Canadian French language, French-language radio network, the news and information service of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (known as Société Radio-Canada in French), the Public broadcasting, public broadcaster of Canada. CHLM-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 90.7 FM in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. The station broadcasts the programming of the Ici Radio-Canada Première network. History In 1976, then-owner Radio-Nord Communications was granted a license from the CRTC, in which the station would operate as Radio-Canada's private affiliate of what was then called "Première Chaîne"; also included was a rebroadcaster, CHLM-FM-1 at Lithium Mines, serving nearby Val-d'Or, operating on 97.3 MHz with effective radiated power of 52,000 watts. In 1979, CHLM-FM-1 was authorized to move to 103.5 MHz and to increase effective radiated power to 55,300 watts.
