Grupo Radio Centro is a Mexico City-based owner and operator of radio stations. It owns 30 radio stations in Mexico and the United States, including 8 radio stations in Mexico City. History Radio Centro's origins date to 1946, when Francisco Aguirre Jiménez formed the Cadena Radio Continental to operate XEQR-AM 1030 and new station XERC-AM 790 in Mexico City. Organización Radio Centro was formed in 1952, and the current company was founded in 1971. In 1965, it founded OIR (Organización Impulsora de la Radio), which syndicates Radio Centro's formats to stations across Mexico. Its non-Mexico City business extended further in the 1980s, when Radio Centro began selling its formats outside the United States (in 1983) and created Cadena Radio Centro (in 1986) to manage this portion of its operations. XEQ-AM (940 kHz) is a commercial class A clear channel AM radio station in Mexico City. The concession is held by Cadena Radiodifusora Mexicana, S.A. de C.V. and is operated by Radiópolis. XEQ-AM broadcasts from a transmitter located at Los Reyes Acaquilpan, on Boulevard Generalísimo Morelos, east of Mexico City. It currently simulcasts XEQ-FM 92.9. History XEQ began operations in 1938. It was owned by Emilio Azcárraga Vidaurreta doing business as Radio Panamericana, S.A., and was a network affiliate of CBS Radio as part of the "Chain of the Americas." XEW-AM is a radio station in Mexico City, Mexico, broadcasting on the AM frequency of 900 kHz; it is branded as ''W Radio''. XEW-AM serves as the originating station for other "W Radio" stations around Mexico that carry some of its programs. The programming on XEW-AM is also simulcast on Mexico City FM radio station 96.9 XEW-FM. History XEW began regular broadcasts at 20:00 CST on September 18, 1930. XEUN-AM is a radio station in Mexico City. Broadcasting on 860 AM, XEUN-AM is owned by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) as a sister to XEUN-FM 96.1 and XHUNAM-TDT 20. History On June 14, 1937, the Cultural Broadcasting Administration of UNAM was formed, and rector Luis Chico Goerne officially dedicated the facilities of the university's new radio station on Justo Sierra 16 in Mexico City. From 1937 to 1939, the station bore the calls XEXX and was located at 1170 kHz, broadcasting at 5 kW four hours a day; in 1939, the station moved to 860 kHz and took the XEUN calls. XEITE-AM is a radio station in Mexico City, broadcasting on 830 kHz. The station is known as Radio Capital, broadcasting adult contemporary music and talk programming, and is owned by Capital Media. History XELA-AM XELA-AM began broadcasting on July 5, 1940, with a classical music format. For many years it was one of the few sources of classical music available to ordinary Mexican citizens. XELA was able to acquire quality sound recordings from the United States, England and France, even though it started with a very low budget, through an exchange program for Mexican music recordings. XERC-AM is a radio station based in Mexico City on 790 kHz, currently silent. The station is owned by Grupo Radio Centro. History In 1946, Francisco Aguirre Jiménez created XERC-AM under the concessionaire ''Radio Popular de México''. This station would serve as the base for what would become Grupo Radio Centro, as "Radio Éxitos 790" and sister to 1030 AM XEQR-AM, known as "Radio Centro 1030". In the 1960s it became "La Campeona 7-90", a subname/slogan of "Radio Éxitos", a pioneer in broadcasting Spanish-language rock, but mostly airing then-current music in English from all genres. XEABC-AM is a radio station in Mexico City, licensed to San Sebastián Chimalpa in the State of Mexico. Broadcasting on 760 kHz, XEABC is owned by México Radio, S.A. de C.V., concessionaire for the Estudios Tepeyac division of Radio Cañon, and broadcasts a talk radio format as "Radio Cañón". 760 AM is a United States clear-channel frequency.
