Psychobilly is a rock music fusion genre that fuses elements of rockabilly and punk rock. It's been defined as "loud frantic rockabilly music", it has also been said that it "takes the traditional countrified rock style known as rockabilly, ramp ngup its speed to a sweaty pace, and combin ngit with punk rock and imagery lifted from horror films and late-night sci-fi schlock,... reating agritty honky tonk punk rock." Psychobilly is often characterized by lyrical references to science fiction, horror (leading to lyrical similarities to horror punk) and exploitation films, violence, lurid sexuality, and other topics generally considered taboo, though often presented in a comedic or tongue-in-cheek fashion. Calabrese (band)
Calabrese is an American rock band that is based out of Phoenix, Arizona. The band consists of three faux brothers; Bobby Calabrese on guitar and vocals, Jimmy Calabrese on bass and vocals, and Davey Calabrese on Drums. Calabrese has been described as "Melodic, hook-laden, catchy, fun, Rock with a Punk attitude”. They have cited other bands such as the Damned, Alkaline Trio, Black Flag, Black Sabbath, Turbonegro, the Misfits, the Hives, White Zombie/Rob Zombie, AFI, Danzig, Type O Negative, and the Ramones as influences. The Hangmen (British Band)
The Hangmen are a three piece band from the North East of England who play their own compositions. Musically they are a punk-rockabilly hybrid often categorised as 'psychobilly', with dark and often dramatic lyrics. The instrumentation is vocals, guitar, double bass and drums. To date they have released nine albums, one of these ''Play Dead'' being a live concert recording. They have also released two 7-inch EPs, a 10-inch EP, a split 7-inch single and a download single. They have appeared on eighteen compilation albums, one of which was a covermount on ' Big Cheese Magazine'. Guana Batz
The Guana Batz are an English psychobilly band who formed in 1982 in Feltham, West London, England. The band are most well known for their frequent appearances at the Klub Foot, an early psychobilly club. History The original group members were Pip Hancox (vocals), Stuart Osborne (guitar), Dave "Diddle" Turner ( drums) and Mick Wigfall (upright bass). Wigfall was removed by Osborne early on, who preferred a bass guitar player for the band. Mick White soon joined the band as bass guitarist. However, by 1984, the Guana Batz decided to again feature an upright bassist, and replaced White with Sam Sardi. Turner quit the band in May 1987, the hectic touring schedule having grown too much for him, and opted to devote his time to his girlfriend and his construction job. The Go-Katz
The Go-Katz are a British psychobilly band formed in Loughborough in 1986. The original members were Howard Raucous (real name Howard Piperides) on vocals, Beaker (real name Giles Brett) on guitar, Andy Young (guitar), Moff (real name Mark Moffat) on Double Bass, and Wolf (real name John Basford) on drums. The band members have formerly made up Loughborough bands The Exorcists and The Go-Go Dakotas. The original line-up recorded a vinyl 7-inch EP called "The Go-Katz EP" released on Raucous Records in 1987. They also issued several tracks on psychobilly compilation albums from Raucous, Kix 4U Records (Netherlands) and Rockhouse Records (Netherlands). The Fleshtones are an American garage rock band from Queens, New York, United States, formed in 1976. History 1976–1979 The Fleshtones were formed in 1976 in Whitestone, New York, by Keith Streng (born September 18, 1955, New York City) and Jan Marek Pakulski (born August 23, 1956, Lewiston, Maine), two roommates who discovered that a previous tenant had left behind some instruments in the basement of the house they were renting. Streng, on guitar, and Pakulski, on bass, were soon joined by neighborhood friends Peter Zaremba (born September 16, 1954, Queens, New York), on harmonica, keyboards, and vocals, and Lenny Calderon (born 1956, New York City), on drums. Flesh Roxon (band)
Flesh Roxon is a Finnish horror punk band, formed in 2012 in Tampere, Finland. History The band originated when Tampere double bass player Ville Mäkinen ("Mr. Willy") met two chemical punk rock musicians: Nicky Rothen and Petri Torkell ("Peter Cordell") in 2010 in Tampere. Together they decided to form a psychobilly band and Flesh Roxon was formed in January 2012. During the first year, the band honed their live performance and played in the studio. In the summer of 2014, Flesh Roxon left Live Nation and signed a new deal with Finnish Stupido Records. Flat Duo Jets was an American rock band from Carrboro, North Carolina, and Athens, Georgia. This rockabilly, punk blues, and psychobilly band was a major influence on several bands of the 1990s and 2000s, including The White Stripes. The band's front man Dexter Romweber is considered by many to be the "godfather" of the guitar and drums and 'power duo' revival. History Flat Duo Jets formed in Carrboro, North Carolina in 1983. Fireballs are an Australian psychobilly band formed in May 1990 by Eddie Fury on drums and vocals, Matt Healy on guitar and Joe Phantom on bass and vocals. The trio issued three albums, ''Terminal Haircut'' (1992), ''Life Takes too Long'' (June 1994) and ''So Bad It's Good'' (1996), before disbanding in October 1997. The original line-up reformed in November 2005, after an eight-year absence, to support Mötley Crüe and Motörhead at the Blackjack festival in Perth. Elvis Hitler is an American rock band from Detroit, Michigan. The band was named after the moniker of their lead singer, Jim Leedy, a combination of rockabilly singer Elvis Presley's first name and the last name of dictator Adolf Hitler.
