This is a list of electricity-generating power stations in the U.S. state of Connecticut, sorted by type and name. In 2020, Connecticut had a total summer capacity of 10,276 MW through all of its power plants, and a net generation of 41,191 GWh. The corresponding electrical energy generation mix in 2021 was 55.6% natural gas, 39% nuclear, 2.1% other, 1.9% biomass & refuse-derived fuels , 0.7% hydroelectric, and 0.7% solar. The remaining 0.1% was split between petroleum and wind. Distributed small-scale solar, including customer-owned photovoltaic panels, delivered an additional net 860 GWh to the state's electricity grid. This compares as more than three times the amount generated by Connecticut's utility-scale solar facilities. Tolland County is a county in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Connecticut. As of the 2020 census, its population was 149,788. It is incorporated into 13 towns and was originally formed on 13 October 1785 from portions of eastern Hartford County and western Windham County. The county is included in the Hartford-East Hartford- Middletown, CT Metropolitan Statistical Area. Counties in Connecticut have no governmental function; all legal power is vested in the state, city and town governments. Colebrook, Connecticut
Colebrook is a town in Litchfield County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 1,361 at the 2020 census. Colebrook was named after Colebrooke in the English county of Devon; the reason is now unknown. Geography Colebrook is in northeastern Litchfield County and is bounded to the east by Hartford County, Connecticut, and to the north by Berkshire and Hampden County in Massachusetts. Somers Solar Center
The Somers Solar Center is a five megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic power plant in Somers, Connecticut. The project is owned by Dominion Energy, and Prime Solutions was the contractor and technology provider. The project was constructed on of former pasture land. The project provides enough energy to power 5,000 homes annually. Project details The origins of the center, which Dominion acquired from Kyocera in October 2013 are traced to an energy law enacted by the Connecticut legislature in 2011. Based on that law, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection issued a request for proposals in December 2011 for the development of ten megawatts of renewable energy to be sold under contract to the state's two major utilities. The Stevenson Dam Hydroelectric Plant is a hydroelectric power plant located on the Housatonic River at the boundary between the towns of Monroe and Oxford, Connecticut. Shepaug Dam (National ID # CT00232) is a dam located between Newtown in Fairfield County and Southbury in New Haven County, Connecticut. The concrete dam was constructed in 1955 by the Connecticut Light and Power Company, with a height of 140 feet, and a length at its crest of 1412 feet. It impounds the Housatonic River and the Shepaug River for hydroelectric power. The dam is owned and operated by the power company Northeast Utilities. The reservoir it creates, Lake Lillinonah, is the second-largest lake in the state, second only to Candlewood Lake. It has a water surface of 2.9 square miles, and a maximum capacity of 86,100 acre-feet. The riparian reservoir is the site of multiple state parks and recreation areas along its shorelines. Windham County is a county located in the northeastern corner of the U.S. state of Connecticut. As of the 2020 census, the population was 116,418, making it the least populous county in Connecticut.
