Pirron Yallock, Victoria
Pirron Yallock is a town in western Victoria, Australia. It is located on the Princes Highway (route A1), where route C163 branches off towards Timboon and Nullawarre. Pirron Yallock is on the banks of Pirron Yallock Creek, which flows into Lake Corangamite. Pirron Yallock state school celebrated its centenary in 1974. Pirron Yallock was served by the Pirron Yallock railway station on the Warrnambool railway line, until the station was closed in 1981. Pirron Yallock Post Office opened on 12 July 1872, was renamed Pirron Yaloak on 21 June 1965, and closed on 31 October 1973. Ombersley, Victoria
Ombersley is a rural locality in Victoria, Australia. Most of the locality is in Colac Otway Shire, with a portion being in adjacent Surf Coast Shire. In the 2016 census, Ombersley had a population of 97. Ombersley Post Office opened on 1 May 1884 and closed on 30 March 1963. Mount Hesse Station, a historic homestead listed on the Victorian Heritage Register and classified by the National Trust of Australia, is located within Ombersley. It was developed as a pastoral property around 1837, and the first homestead was built in the early 1840s. A succession of still surviving outbuildings followed thereafter, including a store (1843), shepherd's hut (1849), stables (1849, extended in 1873), woolshed (1852) and gate lodge (1873). The main Mount Hesse homestead was built in 1856, and extended in 1873. It was severely damaged by fire in 1941 and rebuilt in 1947. Separation Creek, Victoria
Separation Creek is a small coastal locality in the Shire of Colac Otway, Victoria, Australia. In the 2016 census, Separation Creek had a population of 19. The village is situated at the mouth of the Separation Creek, on the Great Ocean Road, which follows the coast through the locality. There are no shops at Separation Creek; the nearest shop and hotel is located at Wye River, which is connected to the town by the Great Ocean Road and on foot by Paddys Path. In July 2014, the federal government announced a $4m upgrade of the Separation Creek bridge, with a new pedestrian walkway across the creek to allow for safer access between the towns. The Wye River Separation Creek Progress Association is a local community organisation which aims to "advance the welfare and protect the environment" of the two towns. The Victorian Heritage Register (VHR) lists places deemed to be of cultural heritage significance to the State of Victoria, Australia. It has statutory weight under the Heritage Act 2017. The Minister for Planning is the responsible Minister. Heritage Victoria was established as the State Government listing and permit authority in 1995, replacing the original authority, the Historic Buildings Preservation Council, established in 1974. Listing on the Victorian Heritage Register is separate from listing by a local Council or Shire, known as a Heritage Overlay. Heritage Victoria is currently part of the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning of the Government of Victoria, Australia. Great Ocean Road
The Great Ocean Road is an Australian National Heritage listed stretch of road along the south-eastern coast of Australia between the Victorian cities of Torquay and Allansford. Built by returned soldiers between 1919 and 1932 and dedicated to soldiers killed during World War I, the road is the world's largest war memorial. Winding through varying terrain along the coast and providing access to several prominent landmarks, including the Twelve Apostles limestone stack formations, the road is an important tourist attraction in the region. In December 2020, legislation went into effect to legally protect the Great Ocean Road – called the “Great Ocean Road Environs Protection Act 2020”.
