Geography Salem is located in southern Upson County at (32.748609, -84.198816). The community is located along U.S. Route 80 and Georgia State Route 22 in the west central part of the state. Oconee County is a county located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 32,808. The county seat is Watkinsville. Oconee County is included in the Athens-Clarke County, GA Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The county's name derives from the Oconee, a Muskogean people of central Georgia.
