John Harris (Australian Settler)
John Harris (1754 – April 1838) was a military surgeon, naval officer and landowner, who arrived in New South Wales on the second fleet and ultimately become one of the major landowners in New South Wales, Australia. Early life John Harris, who was the son of John and Ann Harris was born in 1754 on the Moy McIlmurry farm in Moneymore, County Londonderry, Ireland. Harris lived a prosperous life, with his family working as tenant farmers on the Salters Company which received a grant from the Crown in 1611. In Harris’ early schooling years, he was taught Latin, mathematics and classics, however, there was no evidence in any higher education except studying at the University of Edinburgh for a medical profession. In 1789, an opportunity arose for Harris to join the 102nd army regiment and travel to New South Wales on the Second Fleet and included an instant promotion. ''Fisher's Ghost'' is a 1960 Australian operetta. It is based on the legend of Fisher's ghost which had previously inspired the 1924 film from Raymond Longford. The South Creek or ''Wianamatta'', a creek that is part of the Hawkesbury-Nepean catchment, is located on the Cumberland Plain, also referred to as Greater Western Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Course and features The creek rises in Sydney's south western suburbs below the former Oran Park Raceway about north-east of Narellan and west of Minto. In its upper catchment, the creek forms the boundary between the suburbs of Oran Park and Catherine Field. Robert Campbell (1769–1846)
Robert Campbell (1769–1846) was a merchant and politician in Sydney. He was a member of the first New South Wales Legislative Council. Campbell, a suburb of Canberra was named in his honour. Life and career Campbell was born in Greenock, Inverclyde, Scotland and at the age of 27 moved to India to join his older brother John. In India, he and his brother were partners in Campbell Clark & Co., merchants of Calcutta, which in July 1799 became Campbell & Co. when the Clarkes gave up their interest in the firm. In 1798, Robert Campbell, with a cargo from Calcutta, visited Sydney to develop a trading connexion there, and he also purchased some land at Dawes Point, near the western entrance of Sydney Cove. Birchgrove is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. John Blaxland (explorer)
John Blaxland (4 January 1769 – 5 August 1845) was a pioneer settler and explorer in Australia. Early life Blaxland was born in Kent, the eldest son of gentleman farmer John Blaxland and Mary, ''née'' Parker, of Fordwich, Kent, England. He was the older brother of early Australian explorer Gregory Blaxland. His father died when he was eleven and the family moved to Canterbury where he and his brother were educated at The King's School. In 1787 he joined the army and rose to become a captain. He resigned his commission in 1792 and returned to manage the family estates at Newington, Kent. He was married twice: to Sarah Davies from 1794 until her death in childbirth in 1795, and to Harriet, daughter of Jean Louis de Marquett (a merchant of Calcutta and a former guard of Louis XVI), from 1797 until his death in 1845.
