Gisborne, New Zealand
Gisborne ( mi, Tūranga-nui-a-Kiwa "Great standing place of Kiwa") is a city in northeastern New Zealand and the largest settlement in the Gisborne District (or Gisborne Region). Charles Pierre Chauvel (born 16 April 1969) is a New Zealand lawyer and former politics of New Zealand, New Zealand politician who was a Labour list Member of parliament, Member of Parliament (2006–2013) until his resignation to take up a position with the United Nations Development Programme, UN Development Programme. Wayne Allan Kimber (1949 – 22 May 2004) was a New Zealand politician of the New Zealand National Party, National Party. He was born in Auckland in 1949. Professional career Kimber was a town planner by profession and worked for Gisborne, New Zealand, Gisborne City Council. Gareth Thomas Llewelyn Hughes (born 31 October 1981) is a New Zealand activist and a former politician of the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand, Green Party. He was a member of the New Zealand Parliament for eleven years, from 2010 to 2020. He first took a seat part way through the 49th New Zealand Parliament, 49th Parliament as the next person on the Green party list following the retirement of Jeanette Fitzsimons in February 2010. Parekura Tureia Horomia (9 November 1950 – 29 April 2013) was a New Zealand Labour Party politician who served as Minister of Māori Affairs between 2000 and 2008. Early life Horomia was born in Tolaga Bay of Ngāti Porou, Te Aitanga Hauiti, Ngāti Kahungunu and Ngāi Tahu descent. He had seven brothers and sisters. As a schoolboy he used to walk five kilometres to school and back without shoes. In his early life, he worked as a manual labourer, then as a printer in the newspaper industry. David Garrett (politician)
David Garrett (born 1957) is a lawyer and former member of the New Zealand House of Representatives. He entered parliament at the 2008 general election as a list MP for ACT New Zealand, having been ranked fifth on that party's list. He was ACT's spokesman on law and order until he resigned from the party on 17 September 2010. On 23 September 2010, he resigned from Parliament, following revelations that he had fraudulently obtained a passport in the name of a deceased infant in 1984. Meng Foon
Meng Liu Foon (born ) is a New Zealand politician who served as the mayor of Gisborne from 2001 to 2019. Since August 2019, he has been New Zealand's race relations commissioner. He is one of a handful of people of Chinese descent to have become a mayor in New Zealand. He is fluent in English, Cantonese and Māori. At the time of his departure from the mayoral position he was the only mayor in New Zealand who was fluent in Māori. Harry Dudfield
Harry Dudfield (12 May 1912 – 19 July 1987) was a New Zealand politician of the New Zealand National Party, National Party. Biography Dudfield was born in Gisborne, New Zealand, Gisborne in 1912. He worked for A. and T. Burt until World War II, when he became a soldier and served in the Middle East, Italy and the Pacific. After the war, he worked for the Department of Health, first in Auckland and then in Tokomaru Bay. As a New Zealand Army Captain with Kayforce, he led an advance party to the Korean War, but was withdrawn to contest the snap election for the electorate. He won the Gisborne electorate from New Zealand Labour Party, Labour's Reginald Keeling in the 1951 election, but lost to Keeling in the next election in 1954 New Zealand general election, 1954. Catherine Delahunty (born 1953) is a New Zealand politician and environmentalist. From until 2017 she was a member of parliament in the House of Representatives representing the Green Party. Albert Davy
Albert Ernest Davy (17 August 1886 – 13 June 1959) was a New Zealand political organiser and campaign manager; and at the height of his career, was regarded as one of the best in the country. He was a strong opponent of socialism, and spent most of his life fighting what he saw as socialist tendencies in New Zealand politics. Early life Davy was born in Wellington, where his father Charles was a police officer. His great grandfather - Captain Lleyson Hopkin Davy emigrated out from Wales in 1841.
