Rath Packing Company Administration Building
The Rath Packing Company Administration Building, also known as Adams Store Inc., is a historic Late Gothic Revival building in Waterloo, Iowa. It is a surviving remnant of what was the largest meat-packing plant in the United States in 1941. The plant started in 1891 with hogs, and was "massive". The company was the 5th biggest at the end of World War II, in 1945. In 1966 it was the ninth largest, and it was also the 249th biggest industrial company of any kind in the United States. It closed in 1985. with Preservation of the larger complex as a historic district was sought, but was not obtained, as the specialized industrial buildings rapidly deteriorated. The administration building, completed in 1925, is unlike all other buildings in the plant, in that it was designed by a local architect, who was John S. Hartley (1891/92–1985). Union Fishermen's Cooperative Packing Company Alderbrook Station, on the Columbia River in Astoria, Oregon, was built in 1903. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1991. The listing included three contributing buildings and another contributing structure on a area. The Union Fishermen's Cooperative Packing Company dates from 1896. Founded in 1896 "by a group of gillnetters aiming to gain more control over market and working conditions", the company built a cannery and two stations, this one in Alderbrook and another in Uppertown. These stations served members, mostly Finns and Scandinavians, who lived in Alderbrook and Uppertown neighborhoods. "At these stations, the gillnetters could unload their catches at receiving stations at the pierhead, find secure moorage close to their homes, and have ready access to storage and repair facilities." Rudolph Oyster House
The Rudolph Oyster House is a historic seafood processing building on the grounds of the Long Island Maritime Museum in West Sayville, New York. Built in 1908, it is a rare well-preserved example of a typical oyster culling house of the early 20th century, of which many once lined the local waterfront. The building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2001. Description and history The Rudolph Oyster House stands on the waterfront grounds of the Long Island Maritime Museum. It is a single-story wood-frame structure, mounted on wooden pilings and measuring . Its exterior is finished with wooden clapboards, and it has a gabled roof. The western roof face has a lower roof section that is set at an offset below the upper section, which is finished with glass skylighting to provide natural light to the shucking area.
