Adult Contemporary is a chart published by ''Billboard'' ranking the top-performing songs in the United States in the adult contemporary music (AC) market. In 2000, seven different songs topped the chart in 52 issues of the magazine, based on weekly airplay data from radio stations compiled by Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems. In the year's first issue of ''Billboard'' the number one song was "I Knew I Loved You" by Savage Garden, which was in its second week at number one. The Australian duo's song held the top spot for the first 16 weeks of 2000, the longest unbroken run of the year at number one, before being displaced in the issue of ''Billboard'' dated April 22 by Faith Hill's song " Breathe". "Cruisin'" is a 1979 single written, produced, and recorded by Smokey Robinson for Motown Records' Tamla label. One of Robinson's most successful singles outside of his work with The Miracles, "Cruisin'" hit number one on the U.S. '' Cash Box'' Top 100 and was also a major '' Billboard'' Pop hit, peaking at number four the week of February 2, 1980. William "Smokey" Robinson Jr. (born February 19, 1940) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and former record executive director. He was the founder and front man of the Motown vocal group the Miracles, for which he was also chief songwriter and producer. He led the group from its 1955 origins as "the Five Chimes" until 1972, when he announced his retirement from the group to focus on his role as Motown's vice president. However, Robinson returned to the music industry as a solo artist the following year. Robinson left Motown Records in 1990, following the sale of the company two years earlier. It was written by the three members of the group ( Christian Burns, Mark Barry, and Stephen McNally) along with songwriter Phil Thornalley. It was originally released in August 1999 as the lead single from their debut studio album, '' Sooner or Later'' (2000), but did not experience commercial success until its American release the following year, when it became a top-20 hit in the United States. BBMak are an English band consisting of Mark Barry, Christian Burns and Stephen McNally. Formed in Liverpool in 1996, they sold over three million albums worldwide between 1999 and 2003. The band first achieved success when their single "Back Here" gained popularity in radio stations in Asia and they later signed with Hollywood Records in the U.S. The band reworked their debut album '' Sooner or Later'' for an American release in 2000, and the album charted at number 38 on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart with "Back Here" becoming a top 20 hit. BBMak's success in the American market helped the band finally break through in their home country. In 2002, the group released their second album ''Into Your Head'' which charted at number 25 on the ''Billboard'' albums chart.
