Dulce Nombre De Maria Cathedral Basilica
Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral Basilica ( es, Catedral Basílica del Dulce Nombre de María) is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Guam. It is the seat of the archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Agaña. It is located on the site where the island's first Catholic church was constructed in 1669, under the guidance of Padre San Vitores. The present building looms above the palm trees and is a familiar landmark in downtown Hagåtña. The basilica enshrines the image of Santa Marian Kamalen, Patroness of Guam. History The precursor of the present day basilica was a chapel, or , constructed of rough logs and nipa thatch built within the perimeter of the Plaza de España. The church was the focal site around which the administrative buildings were built. The Pacific War Museum is on Guam. It contains exhibits related to the military in the Pacific theater of World War II with a focus on the U.S. Marines.Brent, P.T. War In The Pacific National Historical Park
The War in the Pacific National Historical Park is a multi-unit protected area in the United States territory of Guam, which was established in 1978 in honor of those who participated in the Pacific Theater of World War II. Uniquely among the National Park System, it honors the bravery and sacrifices of all those who participated in the Pacific Theater. During World War II, Guam was captured by the Japanese forces in 1941, occupied for four years, and liberated by the Americans in 1944. The park includes former battlefields, gun emplacements, trenches, caves, and historic structures. The Park was also featured on the Washington Quarter in 2019 as a part of the America the Beautiful Quarters Series. Components The T.
