Alexandria, Missouri
Alexandria is a city in eastern Clark County, Missouri, United States. As of the 2020 census, its population was 105. Alexandria is part of the Fort Madison– Keokuk, IA-MO Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Alexandria was founded in the 1830s. The community was named after John Alexander, the proprietor of a nearby ferry. A post office called Alexandria has been in operation since 1840. Oregon County, Missouri
Oregon County is a county located in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 8,635. Its county seat is Alton. The county was officially organized on February 14, 1845, and was named for the Oregon Territory in the northwestern United States. Home to a large area of the Mark Twain National Forest, Oregon County contains more national forest acreage than any county in the state of Missouri. It also contains the Irish Wilderness, the largest federally protected wilderness area in the state. Perry County, Missouri
Perry County is a county located in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 18,956. Its county seat is Perryville. The county was officially organized on November 16, 1820 (effective January 1, 1821) from Ste. Genevieve County and was named after Oliver Hazard Perry, a naval hero of the War of 1812. History Early Native Americans The first inhabitants of what is now Perry County were Mississippian Mound Builders who cultivated corn and constructed earthen mounds. The Mississippian cultures inhabited the region until their decline in the 12th and 13th centuries. Remnants of their earthen mounds can be found in the eastern part of the county. Altenburg, Missouri
Altenburg is a city in Perry County, Missouri, United States. The population was 341 at the 2020 census. History Altenburg (German for "Old Castle") was laid out and platted in 1839 by a colony of Lutherans. It was named after the Duchy of Saxe-Altenburg from where many of its settlers came, and not the city of Altenburg which does not seem to have sent a single colonist. Altenburg is one of seven towns and villages in the area founded by German Lutheran immigrants in 1839. Altenburg and the other communities—Dresden, Frohna, Johannisberg, Paitzdorf, Seelitz, and Wittenberg—were all named by settlers for towns in the Saxony region of their native country. These settlers would form the backbone of what would later become the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod. Daviess County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 8,430. Its county seat is Gallatin. The county was organized December 29, 1836, from Ray County and named for Major Joseph Hamilton Daveiss, a soldier from Kentucky who was killed in 1811 at the Battle of Tippecanoe. Lafayette County, Missouri
Lafayette County is a county in the western portion of Missouri, part of the Kansas City metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the population was 33,381. Its county seat is Lexington. The county was organized November 16, 1820 from Cooper County and originally named Lillard County for James Lillard of Tennessee, who served in the first state constitutional convention and first state legislature. Allenville, Missouri
Allenville is a village in Hubble Township in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, United States. The population was 95 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Cape Girardeau–Jackson, MO- IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. History and Industry Allenville was named after Tom Allen, who was the builder of the Belmont Branch Railroad and was platted in 1869 when the railroad was extended to that point. The community was also a point on the old Lone Star Trail, and cattle were driven over the trail all the way from Texas to the Allenville railroad terminal.
