Motorcycle Suspension
A motorcycle's suspension serves a dual purpose: contributing to the vehicle's handling and braking, and providing safety and comfort by keeping the vehicle's passengers comfortably isolated from road noise, bumps and vibrations. The typical motorcycle has a pair of fork tubes for the front suspension, and a swingarm with one or two shock absorbers for the rear suspension. Front suspension The most common form of front suspension for a modern motorcycle is the telescopic fork. Other fork designs are girder forks, suspended on sprung parallel links (not common since the 1940s) and bottom leading link designs, not common since the 1960s. Some manufacturers (e.g. Greeves) used a version of the swinging arm for front suspension on their motocross designs. Ceriani
Ceriani, formerly Arces, was an Italian company that designed and fabricated motorcycle frames and suspensions. The company was founded by Arturo Ceriani in 1951. Arces is an acronym derived from Arturo Ceriani S.r.l. In the European motorcycle industry, it was common for many smaller parts companies to exist, each responsible for creating individual parts to later be assembled into a complete motorcycle. Within a few years of its creation, Ceriani's company was able to successfully make a name for itself by manufacturing components noted for their quality and vision. In 1964, under the leadership of Arturo's son Enrico Ceriani, the companies operations were expanded. Enrico accelerated the expansion by moving the company to a new and more modern plant in Samarate. History In 1974, Bob Fox ran a small business distributing suspension components for motocross bikes with his brother Geoff. Marzocchi
Marzocchi is an Italian manufacturer founded in 1949 by brothers Stefano and Guglielmo Marzocchi. The company profile doesn't include hydraulic industrial pumps anymore but only suspension components for motorcycles and bicycles. The Marzocchi Pompe is still in the hands of the Marzocchi Family and produces gear pumps and motors in Bologna. In 2008 the company was acquired by American automotive parts manufacturer Tenneco. Until 2007, Marzocchi manufactured the mountain bike suspension forks in Italy. In order to remain competitive, Marzocchi, like RockShox before it, moved the production of the forks to Taiwan. In the 4th quarter of 2015, Fox Factory acquired certain assets of Marzocchi's mountain bike product lines. WP Suspension GmbH is a manufacturer of components for motorcycle suspension systems based in Austria. The company was founded in 1977 as ''White Power Suspension B.V.'' in Malden, Netherlands, by Wim Peters, and is amongst the largest manufacturers of suspension components for motorcycles. It is today a wholly owned subsidiary of KTM AG. Company history Dutch motocross rider Wim Peters had a serious crash in a race in 1975, needing over a year for recovery from injuries. The trained mechanical engineer used this downtime to improve the suspension elements of his motocross machine.
