Dingli
Dingli ( mt, Ħad-Dingli) is a village in the Northern Region, Malta, Northern Region of Malta, with a population of 3,865 as of 2021. It is from the capital Valletta and two kilometers () from the nearest town, Rabat, Malta, Rabat. The village lies on a plateau some 250 metres above sea level, which is one of the highest points of Malta. The area provides not only open sea views over the tiny, uninhabited isle of Filfla, but is also a good vantage point over Malta. From the cliffs there are also views of the nearby Buskett Gardens and Verdala Palace. The Cliffs were also the site of the mysterious death of Mike Mansholt. Etymology The name ''Dingli'' is believed to be derived from the name of Sir Thomas Dingley, an English knight of the Knights Hospitaller, Order of St. John, who owned much of the lands in the surrounding area. National Inventory Of The Cultural Property Of The Maltese Islands
The National Inventory of the Cultural Property of the Maltese Islands (NICPMI) is a heritage register listing the cultural property of Malta. The inventory includes properties such as archaeological sites, fortifications, religious buildings, monuments and other buildings. The NICPMI is under the responsibility of the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage (SCH), which was founded in 2002 to replace the Antiquities Act. The NICPMI was established on 16 December 2011. Parish Church Of The Assumption, Dingli
The Parish Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven ( mt, Knisja Parrokkjali ta' Santa Marija Assunta) is a Roman Catholic parish church in Dingli, Malta, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. It was constructed in various stages between 1903 and 1973 on the site of a previous church which had been built between 1678 and 1680. History Before Dingli was established as a village, a settlement known as Ħal Tartarni existed in the area and it was recognized as a parish by 1436. Ħal Tartarni had a small parish church dedicated to St Domenica, but the settlement was later abandoned and in 1539 its parish was abolished and absorbed into the parish of St Paul of Rabat. The village of Dingli subsequently began to develop nearby, and during a visit in 1575 Pietro Dusina recorded that the village had a parish church dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, although its status seems to have remained subordinate to the Rabat parish. Chapel Of St Domenica, Dingli
The Chapel of St Domenica ( mt, Kappella ta' Santa Domenika) is a Roman Catholic chapel in Dingli, Malta, which is dedicated to Saint Kyriaki, Saint Domenica. It was built in the 17th century. History The chapel of St Domenica was established in 1669 by the nobleman Marc'Antonio Inguanez, and it was constructed on his lands as ''jus patronatus''. It is annexed to the garden of ''Diar il-Bniet''. Today, Mass is celebrated within the chapel once a year. The building is listed on the National Inventory of the Cultural Property of the Maltese Islands. Architecture The chapel is small and it has a simple façade which includes a rectangular door and window, flanked by flat pilasters with Doric order, Doric capitals on either side. Above the pilasters there is an entablature and a triangular pediment which is topped by a small stone cross. The chapel has a single altar.
