Clonfert Cathedral
Clonfert Cathedral is a cathedral of the Church of Ireland in Clonfert, County Galway in Ireland. It is in the ecclesiastical province of Dublin. Previously the cathedral of the Diocese of Clonfert, it is now one of three cathedrals in the United Dioceses of Limerick and Killaloe. The current building was erected in the 12th century at the site of an earlier 6th century church founded by Saint Brendan, which was associated with a monastery he founded and at which he was buried. The Dean of the Cathedral is the Very Reverend Roderick Lindsay Smyth who is also Dean of Killaloe, Dean of Kilfenora and both Dean and Provost of Kilmacduagh. Eglish () is a small village in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It is about 6 km southwest of Dungannon, in the Mid Ulster District Council area. Dunmore Abbey is a medieval Augustinian friary and national monument located in County Galway, Ireland. Location Dunmore Friary is located in the northern part of Dunmore, County Galway. History Dunmore was an early monastic site, allegedly founded by Saint Patrick in the 5th century. The site was founded for the Augustinian friars before 1425 by Walter de Bermingham, Baron Athenry. Dunmore Abbey was dissolved in 1569, but the friars remained in occupancy. After the Reformation part of the friary was converted into a parish church of the Church of Ireland. A well is an excavation or structure created in the ground by digging, driving, or drilling to access liquid resources, usually water. The oldest and most common kind of well is a water well, to access groundwater in underground aquifers. The well water is drawn up by a pump, or using containers, such as buckets or large water bags that are raised mechanically or by hand. Water can also be injected back into the aquifer through the well. Wells were first constructed at least eight thousand years ago and historically vary in construction from a simple scoop in the sediment of a dry watercourse to the qanats of Iran, and the stepwells and sakiehs of India. Placing a lining in the well shaft helps create stability, and linings of wood or wickerwork date back at least as far as the Iron Age. Drumacoo Monastery
Drumacoo is a medieval ecclesiastical site and National Monument located in County Galway, Ireland. Location Drumacoo is located north of Ballinderreen, to the east of Galway Bay. History The monastic settlement at Drumacoo was founded in the 6th century by Sárnait (Sourney, Sairnait, Surney, Sorney), a female saint and associate of Colman mac Duagh. She was buried here at the site known as St. Sourney's Bed. Drumacoo was located in the ancient kingdom of Uí Fiachrach Aidhne. The original stone parish church had a flat-headed west doorway and was built of large stones. It was extended eastwards in the 13th century AD and the finely-carved south doorway was added. Clontuskert Priory
The Priory of Saint Mary, Clontuskert-Hy-Many, also called Clontuskert Abbey, is a medieval Augustinian priory and National Monument located in County Galway, Ireland. Location Clontuskert Abbey is located south of Ballinasloe, south of the Ballinure River (a tributary of the Suck). History This was an early monastic site, founded c. AD 800 by Saint Boedan (Baedán, Baetan) and then located in the kingdom of Uí Maine. It should not be confused with Cloontuskert, located near Lanesborough and founded by Faithleach in the 6th century. Local tradition also states that Boedan's monastery was located not here, but at the ringfort at Chapelpark.
