Mexican Academy Of Language
The Academia Mexicana de la Lengua (variously translated as the Mexican Academy of Language, the Mexican Academy of the Language, the Mexican Academy of Letters, or glossed as the Mexican Academy of the Spanish Language; acronym AML) is the Association of Spanish Language Academies, correspondent academy in Mexico of the Real Academia Española, Royal Spanish Academy. It was founded in Mexico City on 11 September 1875 and, like the other academies, has the principal function of working to ensure the purity of the Spanish language. Academy members have included many of the leading figures in Mexican letters, including philologists, grammarians, philosophers, novelists, poets, historians and humanists. Julieta Norma Fierro Gossman (Mexico City, February 24, 1948) best known as Julieta Fierro is a Mexican astrophysicist and science communicator. She is a full researcher at the Institute of Astronomy and professor of the Sciences Faculty at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She is part of the Researchers National System in Mexico, holding a level III position. Since 2004 she is a member of the Mexican Academy of Language. Gustavo Couttolenc Cortés (6 December 1921 – 7 February 2015) was a Mexican writer and academic who specialized in the translation of Latin-language works into Spanish. Born in Uruapan, Michoacán, Couttolenc completed his studies in Latin, philosophy and theology at the Conciliar Seminar of Mexico, where he would eventually serve as a professor for over fifty years, starting in 1948. Margo Glantz Shapiro (; born January 28, 1930) is a Mexican writer, essayist, critic and academic. She has been a member of the Academia Mexicana de la Lengua since 1995. She is a recipient of the FIL Award. Biography Margo Glantz's family immigrated to Mexico from Ukraine in the 1920s. Her father, Jacobo Glantz, met her mother, Elizabeth (Lucia) Shapiro in Odessa, where they married. They tried to emigrate to the United States of America, where they had relatives, but were denied entry and had to remain in Mexico. Although they stayed faithful to Jewish traditions, they soon moved in Mexican artistic circles.
