Ricardo Nunes (politician)
Ricardo Luis Reis Nunes (born 13 November 1967) is a Brazilian businessman and politician who is the current mayor of São Paulo, having assumed office on 16 May 2021 following the death of mayor Bruno Covas. He is a member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement. Career Nunes was elected a city councillor for São Paulo in 2012 and 2016, having been part of the pro-government coalition of mayor Fernando Haddad, of the Workers' Party. While serving as a member of the Municipal Assembly, Nunes held positions on legislative inquiry committees such as a committee on banks, in 2019, which investigated tax evasion of social security services in the state capital. In 2016 he supported amnesty of churches in irregular situation during zoning laws. Nunes gained notoriety in the media for being actively against the inclusion of sexuality and gender in the city education plan. Paulo Lauro (19 November 1907 – 5 August 1983) was a Brazilian lawyer and politician who was the mayor of São Paulo from 1947 to 1948. He was the first Black mayor of the city. He later became a federal deputy representing the state of São Paulo (state), São Paulo in the 1950s and 1960s. Biography Lauro was born on 19 November 1907, in Descalvado, São Paulo (state), São Paulo to Alfredo Gonçalves Lauro and Leopoldina Lauro. He was a Roman Catholic. He graduated with a law degree from the University of São Paulo in 1932. He became a criminal defense attorney in São Paulo while also teaching in local schools. Francisco Prestes Maia () (1896–1965) was a Brazilian architect, civil engineer, urban planner, and professor, who served three terms as mayor of the city of São Paulo. Biography Francisco Prestes Maia was born to Manuel Azevedo Maia and Carolina Prestes on March 19, 1896 in Amparo, São Paulo, a small town 120 km north of the capital city. In 1917, Prestes Maia completed his engineering and architecture degree at the ''POLI'', Polytechnic School of São Paulo (Portuguese: ''Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo'').
