List Of Mayors Of Strathfield
This is a list of mayors of the Council of the Municipality of Strathfield, a Local government areas of New South Wales, local government area in the Inner West (Sydney), Inner West region of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. First incorporated on 2 June 1885 as the "Municipal District of Strathfield" the first council was convened and elected on 19 August 1885, which later changed to the "Municipality of Strathfield" following the passing of the 1906 Local Government Act. The council became known as "Strathfield Council" on 1 July 1993 following the enactment of a new Local Government Act, which also stipulated a change of title from "Alderman" to "Councillor". Since 1971, the Mayor is elected bi-annually by the Councillors each September. The current mayor is Cr Karen Pensabene(Australian Labor Party), elected on the 2 March 2023. Municipality Of Strathfield
The Municipality of Strathfield, also known as Strathfield Council, is a local government area in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Strathfield Council was incorporated on 2 June 1885. The Council area was made up of parts of three existing localities: Redmire (in the northeast), Homebush (in the northwest) and Druitt Town (in the south). The name "Strathfield" was adopted as the name of the new council upon incorporation. In 1886, the suburb of Redmire was renamed Strathfield, as was the railway station. The Council incorporated the suburb of Flemington in 1892, after which the entire council area was usually referred to as the suburb of "Strathfield". In the 20th century, the Council further expanded southward by taking in the western part of former Enfield Council (which became Strathfield South), and northward by taking in the Municipality of Homebush (north of the railway line). The Inner West of Sydney is an area directly west of the Sydney central business district, New South Wales, Australia. The suburbs that make up the Inner West are predominantly located along the southern shore of Port Jackson (Parramatta River), stretching south to the shores of the Cooks River. The western boundary of the Inner West is approximately the A3 arterial road (Homebush Bay Drive / Centenary Drive), which divides the Inner West from the Greater Western Sydney region. The Inner West is much larger than the Inner West Council local government area. Thomas Mackenzie (Australian Politician)
Thomas Fitzherbert Hawkins Mackenzie (1854 – 21 March 1934) was an Australian politician. He was born in Melbourne to banker William Henry Mackenzie and Helen Hawkins. His family moved to Sydney in 1859 and he was educated privately. Around 1869 he and his brother grew cotton in Fiji; they returned to New South Wales in 1874 and bought land on the Macquarie River, where they were devastated by drought. In 1883 Thomas Mackenzie went to Queensland and later to the Murrumbidgee River before settling in Sydney around 1888 to attend to his father's accounting business. There he became a Strathfield alderman from 1892 to 1911, serving as mayor from 1898 to 1901 and from 1908 to 1910. In 1901 he was elected the Liberal member for Canterbury in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly; he served until his defeat in 1907.
