The mayor of Peterborough is an elected official who serves as the head of the Municipal government in Canada, municipal government of Peterborough. The mayor is a member of city council, which is an elected body that is responsible for developing policies, programs and services of the municipality; representing constituents in municipal government; and providing governance over the corporation of the municipality. The Mayor leads Council and acts as the Chairperson of council meetings, as the Chief Executive Officer for the corporation, and as the representative for the municipality. John Jeffrey Leal (born December 13, 1954) is a Canadian politician who serves as the 63rd and current mayor of Peterborough. Previously, he was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 2003 to 2018 who represented the riding of Peterborough. He served in the cabinet of Kathleen Wynne. Diane Therrien
Diane Therrien (born 1985 or 1986) is a Canadian politician who served as the 62nd mayor of Peterborough, Ontario, Peterborough from 2018 to 2022. She was elected in the 2018 Ontario municipal elections. Prior to her mayoral election, she was a city councillor for Ward 3 (Town Ward) from 2014 to 2018. Prior to her political career, Therrien worked for Ontario's Ministry of Indigenous Affairs (Ontario), Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs and for the Peterborough Poverty Reduction Network. Daryl Bennett (born May 27, 1948) is a retired Canadian politician in the Canadian province of Ontario. D. Paul Ayotte is a retired Canadian politician in the Canadian province of Ontario. Formerly a city councillor, he was the mayor of Peterborough from 2006 to 2010. Early life and private career Ayotte was born and raised in Peterborough, where members of his family have lived since 1835. He has a certificate in public administration and was a technical writer for General Electric before retiring in 2002.
