MM 1 Mine
The POMZ, POMZ-2 and POMZ-2M (ПОМЗ, ПОМЗ-2, ПОМЗ-2М) are three types of Soviet-made stake mounted anti-personnel fragmentation mine. The POMZ mine was used during the Second World War. It was superseded by the POMZ-2, and later by the improved POMZ-2M. These mines (and copies thereof) have been used in numerous conflicts, including the Vietnam War and the Korean War. Description The mines consist of a small TNT explosive charge inside a hollow cylindrical-cast iron fragmentation sleeve. The sleeve has large fragments cast into the outside and is open at the bottom to accept the insertion of a wooden or plastic mounting stake. On top is a weather cap, covering a standardised fuze well, which in operation is normally armed with an pull-action fuze ''MUV-2'' ( Rus. MУВ-2) or ''VPF'' ( Rus. ВПФ) pull and tilt tripwire fuze. PMFC-1 Mine
The ''Stockmine'' ("stick mine"), also ''Betonmine'' ("concrete mine"), was a German anti-personnel stake mine used during the Second World War. It consisted of a cylindrical concrete main body on top of a short wooden stake. The concrete head contained a small TNT bursting charge, and was embedded with a number of metal fragments. A fuze is fitted to a central fuze well on the top of the mine. It could be used with a range of fuzes including the ZZ 35, ZZ 42 and ZU ZZ 35 that would trigger on either a tripwire pull or release. PM-68 Mine
The PM-43 (Putkimiina m/43) and PM-68 (Putkimiina m/68) are Finnish anti-personnel fragmentation mines. The PM-43 has a long cylindrical steel body, with heavy fragmentation grooves. It has been used with variety of fuzes including the Model 43, VS-70, and US-65. Currently, it is used with the VS-86 tripwire fuze. The mine is normally mounted in a tree. The PM-68 is similar but uses a body formed from a tightly coiled spring, and currently uses a VS-91 fuze, although it can be used with any of the fuzes used with the PM-43. After Finland joined the Ottawa Treaty, the Finnish Defence Forces began a process to destroy the mines. The work was completed in 2015. P-40 APPLE Mine
The P-40 mine is a Vietnamese anti-personnel fragmentation stake mine. The mines were produced using the spherical steel cases of United States BLU-24/B and BLU-66 submunitions on top of which is a plastic adaptor to accept an MUV style tripwire fuze. The spherical steel case is grooved to aid fragmentation, with the grooves either being internal or external depending on the variant of submunition used as the basis of the mine. The mine is normally mounted on a small three pronged stake and has an effective radius of around 10 meters. The mine is found in Cambodia and Vietnam. P-25 Mine
The P-25 is a plastic cased Italian anti-personnel stake mine. It was developed along with the larger P-40 mine in the late 1970s by Misar SpA and entered production in 1978. The mine consists of a plastic cylinder with a fuse protruding from the top. The mine can either be stake mounted or buried, although it was designed to be stake mounted. Pull pressure on the tripwire results in the fuse head tilting sideways, releasing a striker into the detonator assembly. The mine has a steel fragmentation liner, which when it detonates scatters fragments to an effective radius of 15 meters. The mine has been sold to Iraq (1980), Iran (1984) and to Australia, to whom, in 1986, the production technology was licensed. Production of the mine has ceased, and all Italian operational stocks of the mine have been destroyed. NR-413 Mine
The NR-413 is a Belgian trip wire activated anti-personnel stake mine. The main body of the mine is wine bottle shaped, with an NR 410 tripwire fuse screwed into a fuse well on the top of the mine. Under the fuse well is a detonator and a row of booster pellets. Wrapped around the detonator and booster pellets is the main charge. An internally square cross-sectioned steel wire is coiled around the outside of the mine, which give a fragmentation effect. The mine produces 600 fragments with a velocity of approximately 1,660 metres per second. It has an effective range of around 15 metres. A variant is produced with a cast steel fragmentation jacket. The mine is normally mounted on a metal stake. The four wires protrude from the top of the NR 410 fuse, each of which has a ring attached for fixing to tripwires. It is designed to be carried on the Tornado IDS, although it can be carried on the F-104 Starfighter and the F-4 Phantom.
