Alpine Lakes Wilderness
The Alpine Lakes Wilderness is a large National Wilderness Preservation System, wilderness area spanning the Central Cascades of Washington (state), Washington state in the United States. The wilderness is located in parts of Wenatchee National Forest and Snoqualmie National Forest, and is approximately bounded by Interstate 90 in Washington, Interstate 90 and Snoqualmie Pass, Washington, Snoqualmie Pass to the south and U.S. Route 2 and Stevens Pass to the north. The Alpine Lakes is the largest wilderness area near the population centers of Puget Sound, counted at following the 2014 expansion. Bonnie Lake (Washington)
Bonnie Lake is a small freshwater lake located in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, south of Otter Lake and the Necklace Valley lakes in King County, Washington. Two waterfalls are found neighboring the lake, one at the eastern inflow and the other at the western outflow: Upper and Lower Bonnie Lake Falls respectively. A short distance towards the South are Iron Cap Mountain and Iron Cap Lake. Bonnie Lake is surrounded by forests except on the eastern side, which is largely composed of vegetated bedrock, talus, and avalanche tracks. Boner Lake
Boner Lake is an alpine freshwater lake located on a prominent plateau at the eastern ridge of Crosby Mountain, a short distance south of Palmer Mountain and U.S. Route 2 by the community of Baring in King County, Washington. Boner Lake shares the high valley with Cement Lake, while Crosby Lake is at the opposite side of the Corsby Mountain ridge. Boner lake is surrounded by talus cliffs and slopes and gains access to Crosby Mountain starting at Bing Peak and old-growth forests and the associated logging spur. Klonaqua Lakes are a set of freshwater reservoir lakes located on the western slope of The Enchantments, in Chelan County, Washington. Self-issued Alpine Lake Wilderness permit required for transit within the Klonaqua Lakes area. Name Along with neighboring lakes, Klonaqua Lakes were given its name by Albert Hale Sylvester, a topographer for the United States Geological Survey working throughout the North Cascades National Park Complex in the 1900s. Sylvester compounded the word from the Chinook Jargon ''klone'' with the Wenatchi language word ''aqua'' to mean ''three waters''. Blazer Lake
Island Lakes are a set of closely related freshwater lakes located on a prominent valley at the western base of Pratt Mountain, between Mount Defiance and Bandera Mountain, in King County, Washington. They include Island Lake proper, Rainbow Lake and Blazer Lake. They are themselves surrounded by other alpine lakes, including Lake Kulla Kulla and Mason Lake on the west side of the valley. Because of its proximity to Snoqualmie Pass and other prominent peaks in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, the lakes are a popular area for hiking, swimming, and fishing rainbow trout. Big Jim Mountain Lakes
Big Jim Mountain Lakes are a set of small freshwater lakes located on the northeast skirt of Big Jim Mountain, East of Icicle Ridge, in Chelan County, Washington. Because of its close proximity to Icicle Ridge Trail, the lake is a popular area for hiking, swimming, and fishing. Lake Augusta is a short distance on the opposite side of Icicle Ridge. The lakes are located approximately 2.5 miles from a trail junction area called "The Badlands". Geography The Big Jim Mountain Lakes are located on the northern skirt of Big Jim Mountain, consisting of rocky soils of intrusive rock geology. The exposed rock tends to be quartz-dolerite and granodiorite with influence from the intrusions originated from the Mount Stuart Batholith which underlies the Stuart Range and the nearby Wenatchee Mountains. Big Heart Lake
Big Heart Lake is the most remote and highest-elevation on-trail lake in the West Fork Foss River system. It is a round-trip hike from the trailhead, just off of the Foss River Road. The lake is located at the eastern base of Camp Robber Peak in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area, within King County, Washington. Reaching Big Heart Lake requires a significant elevation gain of over 3,000 feet from the trailhead, and the lake itself has a surface elevation of 4,418 feet. Ecology Big Heart Lake demonstrates many of the typical attributes of higher elevation lakes. These lakes often have high productivity rates during the summer but over the entire year are relatively unproductive.
