Benjamin Rumsey
Benjamin Rumsey (October 6, 1734 – March 7, 1808) was an American jurist from Joppa, Maryland. He served as a delegate for Maryland in the Continental Congress in 1776 and 1777. He served for over twenty-five years, beginning in 1778 until his retirement in 1806 as the first chief judge of the Maryland Court of Appeals. His record of longevity still stands today. Early life Benjamin Rumsey was born on October 6, 1734, to Sabina (née Blaidenburgh) and William Ramsey at Bohemia Manor in Cecil County Province of Maryland. After attending Princeton, he read law and was admitted to the bar. He settled in Joppa about 1768 and lived there the rest of his life. Career Rumsey was first elected to Maryland's lower house in 1771 as a member for Cecil County. After Harford County was formed in 1773, he represented it. Richard Potts
Richard Potts (July 19, 1753November 26, 1808) was an American politician and jurist. Early life and career Potts was born in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and lived there until he moved with his family to the Barbados Islands in 1757. He returned to Maryland and settled in the state capital of Annapolis in 1761, where he studied law. He commenced the practice of law in Frederick County, Maryland in 1775. Potts served as a member of the committee of observation for Frederick County in 1776 and as military aide to the Governor of Maryland in 1777. Law career Potts served as clerk of the Frederick County court from 1777 to 1778, and as prosecuting attorney for Frederick, Montgomery, and Washington Counties in 1784. He was appointed by President George Washington as United States attorney for Maryland, and served from 1789 to 1791. Benjamin Mackall IV (August 14, 1745 – 1807) was an American planter, lawyer, and jurist from Calvert County, Maryland. He served as a justice of the Maryland Court of Appeals from 1778 until 1806.
