Beacon Drive In
The Beacon Drive In is a restaurant in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. According to the company they have served the best ice cream in Victoria for 28 years. History Originally established in 1958 by Bill Pistol and Bob Macmillan who built the drive-in on what had been, since 1914, a private house. Although it started as a drive in with an interior dining area the drive in was replaced with windows where an order could be placed and food taken to the car. Located at 126 Douglas Street, the Beacon Drive In is directly across from the Beacon Hill Park, which does not allow food to be sold within the park grounds. This made the restaurant popular with the parks patrons, with milkshakes and soft serve ice cream becoming a particular favourite. Carl's Ice Cream (also known as "Carl's Frozen Custard" or, most often, "Carl's") is a curbside ice cream stand located at 2200 Princess Anne Street, Fredericksburg, Virginia. Cadwaladers is a family run chain of cafes that originated in Gwynedd, Wales. The original ice cream parlour was introduced by husband and wife David and Hannah Cadwalader in 1927 in Criccieth and was originally run as a general store. The business was passed onto one of their children, Dafydd, who changed the emphasis of the store and removed fish from sale. He sold, from the end of World War II, vanilla ice cream that Hannah Cadwalader developed. The vanilla ice cream was made on the premises with a secret recipe, which is no longer used.
