Lake Potanipo
Potanipo Pond (also known Potanipo Lake or Lake Potanipo) is a water body located in Hillsborough County in southern New Hampshire, United States, in the town of Brookline. Potanipo Pond is the source of the Nissitissit River, which flows via the Nashua River into the Merrimack River, and then to the Gulf of Maine. Morewood Lake Ice Company Explosion
The Morewood Lake Ice Company explosion occurred on December 29, 1910, at the company's plant in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Twelve men were killed in the boiler explosion and five more died from their injuries. Explosion The explosion occurred on the first day of the ice harvesting season. Around 125 men, mostly Italian and Polish immigrants, gathered in and around the boiler house of the Morewood Lake Ice Company waiting for work. The boiler was a second-hand locomotive boiler that had been purchased from a saw-mill in 1906. It was only used for two to three weeks out of the year when ice was being harvested. Metz Ice Plant
The Metz Ice Plant, also known as the Jacob Klaer Gristmill and the Milford Ice and Refrigeration Company, is an historic, American ice manufacturing plant that is located in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in Milford, Pike County, Pennsylvania. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. History and architectural features This historic structure is a late-nineteenth century grist mill that was converted to an ice manufacturing plant. The oldest section, which was built in 1869, is a -story, wood-frame building with a gambrel roof. Attached to it are two wood frame additions, the first of which was built between 1903 and 1927. Five smaller additions of concrete block construction were built between 1927 and 1950. Also extant is a penstock that carried water to the plant. The Knickerbocker Ice Company was an ice company based in New York State during the 19th century. Early history Knickerbocker Ice Company, an Ice trade company, was founded by John J. Felter, John G. Perry, and Edward Felter in 1831 on the eastern bank of Rockland Lake in the hamlets of Congers and Valley Cottage in Rockland County, New York. It rapidly became a commercial success because it was the cleanest and purest ice of the Hudson River Valley region. The Kalgoorlie Brewing and Ice Company opened in 1896 in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia and traded successfully until 1943, when it was taken over by the Swan Brewery, and its name was simplified to Kalgoorlie Brewing Company. The Brewery, known locally as the 'Big K', located at Porter Street, Kalgoorlie, was the last survivor of nineteen breweries that once traded in the Eastern Goldfields.
