Klerksdorp () is located in the North West Province, South Africa. Klerksdorp, the largest city in the North West Province, is located southeast of Mahikeng, the provincial capital. Klerksdorp was also the first capital of the then Transvaal Republic and used to be the home of the first Stock Exchange in the region. It became an important trading town linking Kimberley to Johannesburg. It became home to a mix of farmers, miners and immigrants servicing the two industries. History Beginnings (1837/38 and on) The city was founded in 1837 or 1838 when the Voortrekkers settled on the banks of the ''Schoonspruit''  ("Clear stream"), which flows through the town. Riebeek-Kasteel is one of the oldest towns in South Africa, situated at 80 km north-east of Cape Town in The Riebeek Valley together with its sister town Riebeek West. They set off in the direction of Paardeberg and on 3 February 1661 they ascended a lonely mountain and came upon the fertile vista of the Riebeek Valley. Franschhoek (; Afrikaans for "French Corner", Dutch spelling before 1947 ''Fransche Hoek'') is a small town in the Western Cape Province and one of the oldest towns in South Africa. It is located between the Elands River and the Pilanesberg, about 140 km northwest of Johannesburg, near the city of Rustenburg. The complex borders the Pilanesberg National Park. Rio Casino Resort (formerly known as Tusk Rio Casino Resort) is a casino and resort in Klerksdorp, Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality in North West (South African province). At , it is one of the largest casinos in the Southern Hemisphere and the world History Rio Casino Resort was opened in May 2002 as "Tusk Rio Casino Resort". In August 2006, Peermont Global acquired Tusk Resorts, renaming the property as "Rio Casino Resort". The acquisition of the property was made to realize a substantial increase in casino gaming and improve lodging on land where the company held gaming licenses. Shortly thereafter, a new Peermont Metcourt Rio Hotel was built adjacent to the resort along with a new convention center, Peermont's first in the area, with only one other lodging facility offering such conference facilities.
