Green politics, or ecopolitics, is a political ideology that aims to foster an ecologically sustainable society often, but not always, rooted in environmentalism, nonviolence, social justice and grassroots democracy. It began taking shape in the western world in the 1970s; since then Green parties have developed and established themselves in many countries around the globe and have achieved some electoral success. The political term green was used initially in relation to ''die Grünen'' (German for "the Greens"), a green party formed in the late 1970s. The Green Party of Bolivia (PVB, es, Partido Verde de Bolivia) is a political party in Bolivia, which has a green political orientation. Founded in 2007, it participated in the 2014 general elections, in opposition to the reigning President Evo Morales and the Movement for Socialism. The party is a member of the Global Greens, an international network of green parties, and an observer of the Federation of the Green Parties of the Americas, a regional network of the same. The Green Party of New Brunswick (french: Parti vert du Nouveau-Brunswick) was formed in November 2008 to run in provincial elections. It is a registered Green political party in New Brunswick, Canada. A founding convention was held on November 15, 2008, in Moncton where the membership adopted a constitution, and a charter of principles to guide the development of policies and platforms. A 12-member Executive Committee was elected. On September 19, 2009, Jack MacDougall was acclaimed as the first nominated leader of the party. A community and political organizer, MacDougall is best known for his successful campaign to raise the money to purchase and renovate Saint John's Imperial Theatre. The Green Party is currently the fifth largest party in the House of Commons by seat count. The Greens of Burkina (french: Les Verts du Burkina, VB) is a political party in Burkina Faso. History The party was established in 1991 as the Union of Greens for the Development of Burkina (''Union des Verts pour le Développement du Burkina'', UVDB), and was initially led by Ali Kassamba. The UVDB contested the 1992 and 1997 parliamentary elections, but failed to win a seat. The UVDB nominated Ram Ouédraogo as its candidate for the 1998 presidential election. Ouédraogo finished second in the vote with 6.6%, losing to incumbent Blaise Compaoré.
