In 1999, the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Poverty Alleviation was established. It has gone through several stages of evolution before becoming a Ministry. Originally, it was the Ministry of Youths, Sports, and Social Welfare's Department of Women and Children. Later, it was elevated to the status of a Bureau within the Governor's Office. By Decree 42 of 1992, it was transformed into the Women Commission in 1993. By virtue of Lagos State Official Gazette No 7, Vol. 34, dated 22nd March 2001, it finally became a full-fledged Ministry. Since then, the scope of its work has continued to broaden to include a wide range of state sectors. The Office of the Secretary to the Government was tasked with administering cabinet concerns, security, establishments, home affairs, and information when the newly constituted Lagos State took off administratively in April 1968. The responsibility for information service was transferred to the military Governor's office as the business of governance got more complex. Wale Ahmed (born 3 May 1965) is a Nigerian politician who is a Senator from Lagos State. He currently serves as the Comisissioner for Special Duties to Lagos State Government. Early life and education Wale was born in Agege on 3 May 1965 and attended Anwar-Ul-Islam College Agege, 1977-1982, Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, 1985-1991 and the University of Lagos, 2000-2002.
