Gabber
Gabber (; ) is a style of electronic dance music and a subgenre of hardcore techno, as well as the surrounding subculture. The music is more commonly referred to as Hardcore, which is characterised by fast beats, distorted & heavier kickdrums, with darker themes and samples, and was developed in Rotterdam and Amsterdam in the 1990s by producers like Marc Acardipane, Paul Elstak, DJ Rob, and The Prophet, forming record labels such as Rotterdam Records, Mokum Records, Pengo Records and Industrial Strength Records. The word "gabber" comes from Amsterdam Bargoens slang and means "friend". Gabber remains highly popular in the Netherlands, and has seen a major resurgence recent years. Gabber formed as an underground, anti-establishment movement with small, underground raves, most often illegally held in empty warehouses, basements and tunnels. Neophyte (band)
Neophyte is a Dutch hardcore, or gabber, group formed in 1992 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The three original members are Jeroen Streunding (DJ Neophyte, The Beholder for hardstyle releases), Danny Greten and Robin van Roon. History Jeroen Streunding was a DJ and organised smaller parties around 1990 before he met Danny Greten at a local party, when they decided to work on some tracks together. Robin van Roon also joined them after a while. Both Greten and van Roon were best friends, and classmates of Jeroens' younger sister. XOL DOG 400
XOL DOG 400 is a German hardcore techno music project of Christian Müller, mostly publishing gabber and terrorcore tracks. XOL DOG 400 was founded in 1992 in Berlin as successor of the electronic body music act "Le Nokto Vezyn". In contrast to the short lifetimes typical of early techno projects, XOL DOG 400 has continued its activity through to the present (2019). XOL DOG 400 has published several CDs and vinyl recordings, as well as contributing many tracks on samplers such as the Terrordrome compilations. XOL DOG 400 also recorded a John Peel session for Peel's Radio show on BBC 1 and was the only German act to play at the 1998 Meltdown Festival in London hosted by John Peel. Tommyknocker (producer)
Tommaso Marra (born January 20, 1977, in Rome, Italy), best known as Tommyknocker, is a Hardcore producer and DJ. Career In 1992, Tommyknocker bought his first set of turntables. Two years later, he discovered hardcore music. When he was captivated by that genre, he entered the underground rave scene by spinning at illegal raves in Rome, and at parties with an atmosphere and sound that very much influenced Tommyknocker as an artist. The name Tommyknocker appeared for the first time on a flyer in 1995 when Tommyknocker started spinning for Freddy K at clubs and on the radio. He was one of the first DJs to play hardcore in Italian clubs. He became a resident DJ at the Oxygen parties, where he came in contact with Hardcore artists from other countries, specifically the Netherlands, thereby broadening his musical horizons. Kosuke Saito (composer)
(born December 17, 1983), also known as kors k, is a Japanese DJ and music game composer. He is best known for his work in the Bemani series made by Konami. He has produced music under a number of different aliases, such as kors k, Eagle, StripE, and teranoid. Career He was influenced early in his career by Tetsuya Komuro, and began to learn to play the synthesizer. Following the popularity of J-pop remixes, he became interested in club music. Beginning with beatmania IIDX 11 RED, Saito started to use the teranoid name. He stated that he did not wish to be restricted to a certain style of music by his identity, so he used other names for different styles of music. Scott Brown (DJ)
Scott Alexander Brown (born 28 December 1972) is a Glasgow-born Scottish DJ and music producer, now living in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Brown produces and plays a variety of genres, although he is most associated with bouncy techno. His music ranges from happy hardcore, through hard trance, to gabber. He is the founder of Evolution Records, which started in 1994. Patrick van Kerckhoven (born 1970, alias DJ RuffneckVan Slooten, Lieuwe.Terugkeer DJ Ruffneck zaterdag in het Paard: 'Ik ben nooit weggeweest' (in Dutch), Den Haag FM, November 8, 2018.) is a darkcore or gabber DJ and producer, originating from Alblasserdam, Netherlands. An active DJ since 1985, Kerckhoven has also been involved with various record labels. In 1989, he and Jayant Edoo formed 80 Aum Records. When that closed in 1991, he went on to form Ruffneck Records and its imprints Ruffex and Ruff Intelligenze. After a disagreement with parent label XSV Music, Kerckhoven formed Gangsta Audiovisuals and its imprint Supreme Intelligence, then in 2001, Kerckhoven also closed these and moved all artists to Enzyme Records. Rotterdam Terror Corps
Rotterdam Terror Corps, often abbreviated RTC, is a Dutch gabber act formed in 1993. Originally formed by five Dutch DJs (DJ Distortion, MC Raw, DJ Reanimator, DJ Petrov, and DJ Rob), currently there is only one of the original DJs left, DJ Distortion. DJ Petrov and DJ Rob left to pursue individual work. Reanimator (Patrick Moerland) produced the first album and left twice, the second time in 1995 permanently after an argument with DJ Distortion. In 2002 MC Raw was replaced by Cyriel Brandon, better known by his stage name "RTSier", due to health reasons. RTSier is since that time the MC and live performer on stage. The group has gained a notoriety for its use of eroticism, with each live performance containing female strippers and pyrotechnics. Rotterdam Termination Source
Rotterdam Termination Source is a Dutch gabber/hardcore group fronted by Maurice Steenbergen, initially with Danny Scholte as well. The group is most famous for its minimalist 1992 single "Poing", which topped the charts in the Netherlands and Denmark, and reached #27 in the UK Singles Chart. The group reached #73 in the UK chart in 1993 with the single, "Merry X-Mess". As of 2005, Steenbergen has merged the group with Guido Pernet of Human Resource, famous for their hit single "Dominator". Ralphie Dee
Ralph D'Agostino, better known as Ralphie Dee, is an American D.J. known for a career spanning disco, electronic and rave music. He was resident D.J. at 2001 Odyssey Disco in Brooklyn, New York at the time when " Saturday Night Fever" was filmed there. The movie was largely responsible for the popularization of disco lifestyle, and attracted numerous tourists to 2001 Odyssey starting in 1978 and through the 1980s. Many disco music hits were first heard there from the hands of DJ's such as Chuck Rusinak and D'Agostino. Many live recordings were done at 2001 and are available online (See also the External Links section). Dov Joseph Elkabas (born 5 November 1968), known professionally as DJ The Prophet, is an Israeli-Dutch hardcore techno and hardstyle DJ and producer. The Prophet is also the owner of one of the largest hardstyle record labels, Scantraxx. Biography The Prophet started his career as a DJ in 1983 after he discovered turntables at a disco in Amsterdam. He was working in a hotel at the time, and performing as DJ on the side. He was asked to choose, and made the choice to DJ full-time. He started spinning hip hop music before a switch to house in 1988. About three years later, he set up a team of DJs known as "The Dreamteam", together with DJ Dano, Buzz Fuzz and Gizmo. The team was a huge success in the gabber scene.
