List Of First Overall NBL Canada Draft Picks
The NBL Canada draft is an annual event in which each team from the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL) can draft players who are eligible and wish to join the league. Most of these players previously played college basketball in U Sports or the NCAA. Before becoming eligible, the players must participate in a pre-draft combine, and the list of players that will attend the draft is officially decided. Teams are allowed to trade picks during the draft as well. In 2012, the Summerside Storm received a first and third-round pick from the Halifax Rainmen in exchange for Troy Gottselig. This was the first recorded incident of such a kind. It is also typical for teams to make trades following the event. Forward (basketball)
In the sport of basketball, there are five players play per team, each assigned to positions. Historically, these players have been assigned, to positions defined by the role they play on the court, from a strategic point of view. The three main positions are guard, forward, and center, with the standard team featuring two guards, two forwards, and a center. Niagara River Lions
The Niagara River Lions are a Canadian professional basketball team based in St. Catharines, Ontario, that competes in the Canadian Elite Basketball League. The 2015 NBL Canada draft was held on November 28, 2015, at the Athlete Institute in Mono, Ontario. During the event, National Basketball League of Canada (NBL) teams took turns selecting amateur college basketball players. The new expansion team, the Niagara River Lions, were awarded the first overall pick and selected Erik Copes, a power forward from George Mason in the NCAA Division I. The eighth overall pick in the draft was defunct, due to the folding of the Mississauga Power team during the offseason. The Windsor Express is a Canadian professional basketball team based in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The Express are an expansion team of the National Basketball League of Canada that began play in the 2012–13 season. The Express play its home games at the WFCU Centre.
