List Of Fire Stations
This is a list of notable current and former fire stations, which are also called "fire houses", "fire halls", "engine houses", "hook and ladder companies" and other terms. It includes combination buildings, such as city halls or other government buildings that include a fire station. This list is intended to include all historic fire stations which have formally been listed on historic registers, as well as modern ones notable for their architecture or other reasons. This list is not intended to cover fire department buildings that are purely administrative. Nor does it cover specialty buildings serving as fire alarm headquarters or pumping stations for water supply systems dedicated to firefighting; for these see List of fire department specialty facilities. Note the term "engine houses" may refer to other collections of engines, e.g. for supplying power to factories; these are covered in a separate list of engine houses. Narrow towers rising above many fire station buil ...

Fire Stations
__NOTOC__ A fire station (also called a fire house, fire hall, firemen's hall, or engine house) is a structure or other area for storing firefighting apparatuses such as fire engines and related vehicles, personal protective equipment, fire hoses and other specialized equipment. Fire stations frequently contain working and living space for the firefighters and support staff. In large US cities, fire stations are often named for the primary fire companies and apparatus housed there, such as "Ladder 49". Other fire stations are named based on the district, neighborhood, town or village where they are located, or given a number. Facilities A fire station will at a minimum have a garage for housing at least one fire engine. There will also be storage space for equipment, though the most important equipment is stored in the vehicle itself. The approaches to a fire station are often posted with warning signs, and there may be a traffic signal to stop or warn traffic when apparatus ...

Nundah Fire Station
Nundah Fire Station is a heritage-listed former fire station at 7 Union Street, Nundah, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Atkinson & Conrad and built in 1936 by T F Woollam. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 26 March 1999. History A modest, functional civic building, the Nundah Fire Station has been the operational centre for fire services in Nundah since 1936. Between 1860 and 1868 there were five attempts to form a fire fighting service for Brisbane. Each brigade struggled to survive unable to attract a viable subscription base and hampered by inadequate equipment and an unreliable water supply. The establishment of an effective fire service did not enjoy a high priority among civic and government leaders. A fifth brigade, the City Volunteer Fire Brigade, was established in 1868. New rules provided for better financial control and balanced representation through the Fire Brigade Board with membership from the Brisbane Municipal ...

Belltower, Maryborough Fire Station
The Belltower of the Maryborough Fire Station in Maryborough, Victoria was built in 1888, and is important as one of a small group of fire station towers erected in Victoria. It is an example of a rare building type, essential to the nineteenth century city, made redundant by the advent of electric communications. The design of the brick part of the tower is eclectic, with a wide arched base, battered walls, diagonally placed windows, and an Italianate arcaded belfry. This is topped by a most unusual, very tall timber superstructure. The Belltower is attached to the fire station which was built in 1861, and now used as the Maryborough Art Gallery. The belltower is listed on the Register of the National Estate The Register of the National Estate was a heritage register that listed natural and cultural heritage places in Australia that was closed in 2007. Phasing out began in 2003, when the Australian National Heritage List and the Commonwealth Herita ... and was classified ...

Keilor Fire Station
Keilor Fire Station is the first in a series of three fire stations in suburban Melbourne, Victoria designed by Edmond and Corrigan. It is located in Milleara Road, Keilor East. Founded in the late 1970s, Edmond and Corrigan are widely recognised for their involvement in post-modern architecture focusing on Australian cultural factors. Their designs draw on different aspects that contribute to and shape society itself such as poetry, theatre, literature, dance and art combining particular influences to achieve a final architectural outcome. Peter Corrigan once said, "Buildings are informed by ideas… with generosity, intelligence and ambition". Description An example of domestic architecture, Keilor Fire Station is a building that strives to communicate the role fire-fighters play in society through planning, layout shape, colour and materiality. The building is recognisable by a heavy tile roof and a tall jaunty corridor with clerestories In architecture, a clerestory ( ; , ...

East Fire Tower Ballarat
East or Orient is one of the four cardinal directions or points of the compass. It is the opposite direction from west and is the direction from which the Sun rises on the Earth. Etymology As in other languages, the word is formed from the fact that east is the direction where the Sun rises: ''east'' comes from Middle English ''est'', from Old English ''ēast'', which itself comes from the Proto-Germanic *''aus-to-'' or *''austra-'' "east, toward the sunrise", from Proto-Indo-European *aus- "to shine," or "dawn", cognate with Old High German ''*ōstar'' "to the east", Latin ''aurora'' 'dawn', and Greek ''ēōs'' 'dawn, east'. Examples of the same formation in other languages include Latin oriens 'east, sunrise' from orior 'to rise, to originate', Greek ανατολή anatolé 'east' from ἀνατέλλω 'to rise' and Hebrew מִזְרָח mizraḥ 'east' from זָרַח zaraḥ 'to rise, to shine'. '' Ēostre'', a Germanic goddess of dawn, might have been a personification ...
