Ambassadors of the United States are persons nominated by the president to serve as the country's diplomatic representatives to foreign nations, international organizations, and as ambassadors-at-large. Under Article II, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution, their appointment must be confirmed by the United States Senate; while an ambassador may be appointed during a recess, they can serve only until the end of the next session of Congress, unless subsequently confirmed. Ambassadors are the highest-ranking diplomats of the U.S. and are usually based in the embassy in the host country. They are under the jurisdiction of the Department of State and answer directly to the secretary of state; however, ambassadors serve " at the pleasure of the President", meaning they can be dismissed at any time. Donna Jean Hrinak (born March 28, 1951) is an American lawyer and former diplomat who has been the president of Boeing Latin America & Caribbean since September 2011. Early life and education Hrinak was born in Pennsylvania on March 28, 1951. She speaks Spanish, Portuguese, and Polish, which served her through her international diplomatic and business postings. Hrinak earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in social sciences from Michigan State University and a Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School. Madeleine Jana Korbel Albright (born Marie Jana Korbelová; May 15, 1937 – March 23, 2022) was an American diplomat and political scientist who served as the 64th United States secretary of state from 1997 to 2001. A member of the Democratic Party, Albright was the first woman to hold that post. Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, Albright immigrated to the United States after the 1948 communist coup d'état when she was eleven years old.
