This is a list of airline codes. The table lists IATA's two-character airline designators, ICAO's three-character airline designators and the airline call signs (telephony designator). Historical assignments are also included.ht IATA airline designator IATA airline designators, sometimes called IATA reservation codes, are two-character codes assigned by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to the world's airlines. The standard is described in IATA's ''Standard Schedules Information Manual'' and the codes themselves are described in IATA's ''Airline Coding Directory''. (Both are published semiannually.) The IATA codes were originally based on the ICAO designators which were issued in 1947 as two-letter airline identification codes (see the section below). This article lists the civil airports, some joint with military airbases and small airports in Pakistan. There are an estimated 151 airfields in Pakistan. Major international airports are situated in Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore. Other international airports are situated in Peshawar, Multan, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Quetta, Rahim Yar Khan, Turbat, Gwadar, D.G.Khan, Tharparkar, Sukkur and Skardu . Civil airports in Pakistan are operated by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority, with the exception of Sialkot International Airport, which is the first privately owned airport in Pakistan and South Asia, open to domestic and international civil aviation. It is owned and operated by the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Military airbases are generally operated by the Pakistan Air Force, the exceptions being Dhamial Army Aviation Airbase in Rawalpindi and Tarbela Army Aviation Airbase which are operated by the Pakistan Army. Safe Air (Pakistan)
Straits Air Freight Express (SAFE) was a cargo airline, established in 1950, named for its Cook Strait focus and connecting the North Island and South Islands of New Zealand's railway systems from the 1950s to the 1970s. The company was renamed Safe Air Limited in 1966 and diversified into aviation maintenance. In 1972 it was bought by the National Airways Corporation, which then merged with Air New Zealand. Safe Air continued to be operated as an independent entity by both owners. It ceased flying in 1990, but has continued to expand as a maintenance facility and now employs approximately 350 staff. In 2015 it was bought by the Australian arm of Airbus. Rail Air In 1947, New Zealand Railways Department (NZR) and the Royal New Zealand Air Force began flying between Paraparaumu and Blenheim with a service that came to be known as Rail Air. Shaheen Air International ( ur, ) was a private Pakistani airline with its head office at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi and was founded by the Shehbai family. It remained Pakistan's second-largest airline until its liquidation in 2018 due to financial troubles. In December 2018, the owners of the airline, Kashif Mehmud Sehbai and Ehsan Khalid Sehbai, fled to Canada to avoid debt-related prosecution. The airline owed billion to Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan (CAA) and its employees salaries. It provided passenger, cargo and charter services, to major cities in Pakistan and the Middle East.
