List Of Current Members Of The King's Privy Council For Canada
Members of the King's Privy Council for Canada use the title The Honourable if they are ordinary members. Prime Ministers, Governors General and Chief Justices automatically are given the title The Right Honourable. While Governors General have the right to the title Right Honourable upon being sworn into office they are not inducted into the Privy Council until the end of their term unless they were previously members of the council by virtue of another office. Other eminent individuals such as prominent former Cabinet ministers are sometimes also given the title Right Honourable. Leaders of opposition parties and provincial premiers are not automatically inducted into the Privy Council. Iona Campagnolo
Iona Victoria Campagnolo, (née Hardy, born October 18, 1932) is a Canadian politician who served as the 27th Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia from 2001 to 2007; Campagnolo was the first woman to hold that office. Anthony Chisholm Abbott, (born November 26, 1930) is a Canadian lawyer and former politician. Born in Montreal, the son of Douglas Charles Abbott, Abbott was a lawyer by profession before being elected to the House of Commons of Canada as the Liberal Member of Parliament for Mississauga, Ontario in the 1974 federal election. Jean-Jacques Blais, (born June 27, 1940) is a former Canadian politician, who represented the riding of Nipissing in the House of Commons of Canada from 1972 to 1984. He was a member of the Liberal Party of Canada. Monique Bégin, (born March 1, 1936) is a Canadian academic and former politician. Early life Bégin was born in Rome and raised in France and Portugal before emigrating to Canada at the end of World War II. She received a MA degree in sociology from the Université de Montréal and a PhD degree from the Sorbonne. She describes her early life in Montreal as challenging, but credits community groups and her childhood role as a Girl Guides of Canada member as "sav(ing) her life". Marcel Lessard, (born August 14, 1926) is a Canadian former politician. Lessard was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada as the Social Credit Member of Parliament (MP) for Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec as part of Réal Caouette's breakthrough in the province in the 1962 election. He was re-elected in the 1963 election. The Social Credit Party split soon after along English and French lines, however Lessard declined to join the majority of Social Credit's Quebec MPs who followed Caouette into the ''Ralliement Créditiste'' and remained with the Alberta-based Social Credit Party led by Robert Thompson for the rest of the parliamentary term. Judd Buchanan, (born July 25, 1929) is a Canadian former politician and businessman. After a career in the life insurance industry working for London Life, Buchanan, born in Edmonton, Alberta, was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1968 election as the Liberal Member of Parliament for London West. He served as a Parliamentary Secretary in the early 1970s, first to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, and then to the Finance Minister. He was appointed to the Cabinet by Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau in 1974 as Minister of Indian Affairs. Marc Lalonde (; born July 26, 1929) is a retired Canadian politician and cabinet minister. Life and career Lalonde was born in Île Perrot, Quebec, and obtained a Master of Laws degree from the Université de Montréal, a master's degree from Oxford University, and a Diplôme d'études supérieures en droit (D.E.S.D) from the University of Ottawa. André Ouellet (), (born April 6, 1939) is a former longtime Liberal federal politician and Cabinet member in Canada. Following his political career, he served as chairman of Canada Post. First elected to the House of Commons of Canada in a 1967 by-election, Ouellet served in a number of different positions in the cabinets of Prime Ministers Pierre Trudeau and Jean Chrétien.
