Hilo () is a census-designated place (CDP) and the largest settlement in Hawaii County, Hawaii, United States, which encompasses the Island of Hawaii. There are currently 303 American, Canadian, and Puerto Rican colleges and universities classified as Division II for NCAA competition. During the 2022–23 academic year, seven schools are in the process of reclassifying to Division II. Brigham Young University–Hawaii (BYU–Hawaii) is a private university in Laie, Hawaii. It is owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). BYU-Hawaii was founded in 1955, and became a satellite campus of Brigham Young University (BYU) in 1974. In 2004, it was made a separate institution.
