This list of Argentine cities by population briefly explains the three different population figures given for Argentine cities, and provides rankings for each. The population of each city except Buenos Aires includes its conurbation. Greater Buenos Aires has a population of 12,801,365. There is also a list at the bottom of this page that shows the GDP (PPP: Purchasing Power Parity) of each greater metropolitan area of the largest cities in the country. Banfield, Buenos Aires
Banfield is a city in the district of Lomas de Zamora in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, south of the city center of Buenos Aires. It forms part of the Greater Buenos Aires metro area. History The area where the city is currently located, had its origin from the laying of the railroad tracks. In principle, this allowed communication between Chascomús and the city of Buenos Aires, which at that time was the provincial capital. The yellow fever epidemic that occurred in 1871 diversified the location of the population, mainly in the suburbs, as well as in the sectors near the capital, until then little chosen. Juan de Zamora sold his property to the Colegio de Nuestra Señora de Belén in 1765, but in 1767 the Jesuit order of Río de la Plata was expelled and dissolved. Quilmes
Quilmes () is a city on the coast of the Río de la Plata, Rio de la Plata, in the , on the south east of the Greater Buenos Aires. The city was founded in 1666 and it is the seat of the Quilmes Partido, eponymous county. With a population of 230,810, it is located south of the capital of Argentina, the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires. History The ''Quilmes (tribe), Quilmes'' were a native tribe who lived in the surroundings of San Miguel de Tucumán, Tucumán. In the 17th century, after repeated attempts by the Spanish invaders to control their lands, the Quilmes were defeated and were forced to settle in a restricted colony (''reducción'') near Buenos Aires, where the authorities could control them. Neuquén
Neuquén (; arn, Nehuenken) is the capital city of the Argentine province of Neuquén and of the Confluencia Department, located in the east of the province. Merlo is the head town of the eponymous partido of Merlo and seat of the municipal government, located in the Greater Buenos Aires urban area of Buenos Aires Province, Argentina.
