Saints Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church Complex is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 for its architectural significance. Saints Peter and Paul parish was created in 1889, a response to the upper east side's rapidly growing German immigrant population during the 1880s and 90s, at the direction of Milwaukee's vicar general, the Right Reverend Leonard Batz. The parish began with forty-three families, and they initially worshiped in a temporary chapel on the corner of East Bradford and North Cramer Streets, while the permanent church was being built nearby. With The church building was designed by Henry Messmer of Milwaukee in Romanesque Revival style, with rusticated limestone foundations supporting cream brick walls. Hyacinth (Jacek) Gulski
Hyacinth Gulski (November 28, 1847 – December 24, 1911) was a pioneer Polish-American Roman Catholic priest. He served as Archdiocesan Consultor to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Biography Gulski was born in Chełmno, then part of West Prussia in 1847, son of Antoni Gulski (musician) and Anna Schewa, his birth name was Franciscus Joannes. In 1866 he joined the Franciscans and was ordained at Laki, German partition of Poland, entering the priesthood on September 21, 1873. That same year, his friary was closed as a result of the ''Kulturkampf''. Gulski spent two years in hiding and eventually fled in 1875 via Antwerp to the United States, where he was offered a pastorship in Berlin, Wisconsin. The following year, he was transferred to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the principal Polish parish in the city. The Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church is a historic church built in 1850 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin - now one of oldest surviving church buildings in the city, and very intact. In 1972, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. History The Walker's Point settlement was founded in the 1830s. Many of the early settlers were German-speaking Catholics - many with roots in southern Germany and Austria. With In the late 1840s, Father Salzmann of St. Mary's Church began organizing those German-speaking Catholics of the south side into Holy Trinity parish. German-born architect Victor Schulte designed the main block of Holy Trinity (as he had St. Mary's) rectangular with brick walls which have weathered to a warm gray.
