Children's radio networks are radio networks which are targeted to children. These networks attempted to form in the late 1980s to 1990s. The more notable ones Radio AAHS and Radio Disney, while Children's Radio Network was the first on the air. Children's Radio Network Children's Radio Network was the first children's radio network which went to the air twice. Children's Radio Network started broadcasting from its flagship station in Jacksonville in 1984. It was founded and funded by William Osewalt. The network built up to six affiliated stations. Osewalt ran into some personal financial problems, forcing a shutdown of the network in 1986. Osewalt relaunched the network on WWTC in Minneapolis in May 1990 as Radio AAHS. As of May 1991, the network had no addition affiliates but expected to add some by the end of the year. Radio AAHS
Radio AAHS was a radio network managed by the Children's Broadcasting Corporation. Its flagship station was WWTC (1280 AM) in Minneapolis, which broadcast from the former First Federal Bank building at Minnesota State Highway 100 and Excelsior Boulevard in St. Louis Park. At its height in 1996, Radio AAHS had 29 affiliates across the nation. Founder Christopher Dahl had purchased WWTC in 1990 and created an outlet for children's music, specifically targeted at listeners 5 to 10. The musical format had songs from children's films, but also created a niche for songs recorded specifically to entertain children. The programming was driven, in large part, by listener requests, and many of the choices were little known outside that audience. Radio Disney was an American radio network operated by the Disney Radio Networks unit of Disney Branded Television within the Disney General Entertainment Content, headquartered in Burbank, California. The network broadcast music programming oriented towards children, pre-teens and teenagers, focusing mainly on current hit music and a heavy emphasis on teen idols (particularly those signed with Disney Music Group record labels, such as Hollywood and Walt Disney); compared to most CHR stations, Radio Disney was far more aggressive in playing only current hits and eschews recurrent rotation. WWTC
WWTC (1280 AM, "The Patriot") is a commercial radio station licensed to Minneapolis, Minnesota and serving the Twin Cities region. It is owned by Salem Media Group and broadcasts a conservative talk radio format. By day, WWTC transmits with 10,000 watts. At night, the power is increased to 15,000 watts. WWTC has a directional signal using a four-tower array. The transmitter and radio studios are on Cliff Road near Minnesota State Highway 77 in Eagan. Programming is also heard on 250-watt FM translator K298CO at 107.5 MHz. Peter Yarrow
Peter Yarrow (born May 31, 1938) is an American singer and songwriter who found fame for being in the 1960s folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary. Yarrow co-wrote (with Leonard Lipton) one of the group's best known hits, " Puff, the Magic Dragon". He is also a political activist and has supported causes that range from opposition to the Vietnam War to support for school anti-bullying programs. Early life and family Peter Yarrow was born in Manhattan, the son of Vera Wisebrode (née Vira Burtakoff) and Bernard Yarrow. WPRD
WPRD (1440 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Spanish Variety format. Licensed to Winter Park, Florida, United States, WPRD is owned and operated by J & V Communications, Inc. WPRD serves as the main flagship station for J & V Communications, Inc. and is headquartered in Orlando, Florida, in the same building previously occupied by former stations WABR and WBJW (the latter now WOMX-FM). Some programming on WPRD is repeated on WOTS 1220 kHz in Kissimmee, WSDO 1400 kHz in Sanford, WTJV 1490 kHz in DeLand, and WUNA 1480 kHz in Ocoee. The radio tower for KDYL is located near the Bingham Canyon Mine. KDYL (1060 kHz) is an AM radio station licensed to South Salt Lake, Utah broadcasting a Spanish Variety format. The station is owned by Eric Palacios, through licensee Radio Activo 3, LLC. The station broadcasts with 10,000 watts by day. But because AM 1060 is a clear channel frequency, after sunset KDYL must reduce power to 149 watts so it does not interfere with Class A stations XEEP, located near Mexico City, and KYW in Philadelphia.
