The United States Census Bureau defines census-designated places as unincorporated area, unincorporated communities lacking elected municipal officers and boundaries with legal status. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, Kansas has 114 census-designated places, up from 44 in the 2010 United States census, 2010 census. While most CDPs in Kansas are small, rural communities, there are also a handful of CDPs included in this list that are inside of Indian Reservations, as well as some military bases. Kansas In United States
Kansas () is a state in the Midwestern United States. Its capital is Topeka, and its largest city is Wichita. Kansas is a landlocked state bordered by Nebraska to the north; Missouri to the east; Oklahoma to the south; and Colorado to the west. Kansas is named after the Kansas River, which in turn was named after the Kansa Native Americans who lived along its banks. The tribe's name (natively ') is often said to mean "people of the (south) wind" although this was probably not the term's original meaning. Baileyville, Kansas
Baileyville is an unincorporated community in western Nemaha County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the community and nearby areas was 182. It is located six miles west of Seneca on U.S. Route 36. History The community was founded as Haytown, then renamed by Willis J. Bailey and his father to Baileyville. In 1903, Willis became the 16th Governor of Kansas Willis J. Bailey. The first post office in Baileyville was established in 1880. As of 1902, Baileyville was reported to be one of two sundown towns in the state, where African Americans were not allowed to reside. Bendena, Kansas
Bendena is an unincorporated community in Doniphan County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the community and nearby areas was 117. History Bendena was founded in 1886. It was originally given the name of Albers, after John Albers, who farmed on this land. But when the United States Postal Service established a post office there, they required a change of name because of similarities to other town names in Kansas. It was then named for the sweetheart of the first telegraph operator at the Chicago, Kansas and Nebraska railroad station. The first post office in Bendena was established in January, 1888. Beaumont, Kansas
Beaumont is an unincorporated community in Butler County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the community and nearby areas was 36. History The surrounding area is farm land, settled by ranchers and farmers after the Civil War. Homesteaders from Missouri, Iowa, Tennessee, and other eastern states came because of an abundance of cheap land. The town site was first a stop on the stagecoach route between Fredonia and Wichita. In 1879 Edwin and Emma Russell built the Summit Hotel, later renamed as the Beaumont Hotel. In 1885 the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad, better known as the Frisco, established Beaumont as a railroad town. One line of tracks ran east and west, connecting St. Louis with Wichita.
