Santa Ana Cathedral, El Salvador
The Cathedral of Our Lady Saint Anne ( es, Catedral de la Señora Santa Ana), is a neo-Gothic cathedral located in Santa Ana, El Salvador. History The original site of the Cathedral was the central parish, which was built between 1575 and 1576. It was destroyed by lightning in the 19th century. When the Diocese of Santa Ana was created, preparations were made to rebuild the central parish; this reconstruction was authorized in 1904 and began on January 21, 1906. It was consecrated on February 11, 1913. Construction continued in the following decades until finally completed on February 24, 1959 when the marble altar of the image of Saint Anne was consecrated and finished. On April 22, 1995 was declared a National Monument. Design The building was designed as a Neo-Gothic cathedral, in contrast to the Spanish colonial style of most of the cathedrals in El Salvador and the rest of Latin America. Zacatecoluca () is the capital municipality of the La Paz Department of El Salvador. Located in Southern El Salvador, in the Rio Lempa valley, at the foot of San Vicente (Chinchotepec) Volcano. A commercial center for the surrounding agricultural area, it also trades in cotton goods, baskets, salt, and lumber. History An earthquake in 1932 caused severe damage. Zacatecoluca was the birthplace of José Simeón Cañas, who fought for and secured the emancipation of slaves in Central America by Spaniards in 1825. The Our Lady of the Poor Cathedral ( es, Catedral de Nuestra Señora de los Pobres) also known as the Zacatecoluca Cathedral, is the main church of the Catholic Diocese of ''Zacatecoluca'', in the city of Zacatecoluca, in the Central American country of El Salvador. In the sixteenth century, when the Spanish founded the city, it was located to the east of the central square (present ''Cañas Square),'' site in which it has been located since. The ''Cathedral of Zacatecoluca'' has undergone different modifications over time. Originally it was a hermitage of adobe and tile, maintaining itself until being replaced in 1740 by another one of facade of wood with influences of some elements of the Renaissance and Baroque styles. The Most Holy Trinity Cathedral ( es, Catedral de la Santísima Trinidad ) Also Sonsonate Cathedral is the name given to a religious building affiliated with the Catholic Church located in the city of Sonsonate in the department of the same name, in the western part of the Central American country of El Salvador. As its name indicates this is dedicated to the mystery Christian of the Holy Trinity. The present building started as a parish, was blessed in 1887 and elevated to cathedral status in 1986. San Vicente () is a municipality in the San Vicente department of El Salvador. It was founded by 50 Spanish families in 1635 under the Tempisque tree, which is still standing today. Historic sites One point of interest is the Tower of San Vicente, designed by French Architect Eugenio Basilio Crepiat (the Spanish version of his name), located at the center of the city in Cañas Park. It was damaged by an earthquake in 2001. Repairs have since been made, and the tower is once again the hub of many festivities.
