Bridge
A bridge is a structure built to span a physical obstacle (such as a body of water, valley, road, or rail) without blocking the way underneath. It is constructed for the purpose of providing passage over the obstacle, which is usually something that is otherwise difficult or impossible to cross. There are many different designs of bridges, each serving a particular purpose and applicable to different situations. Designs of bridges vary depending on factors such as the function of the bridge, the nature of the terrain where the bridge is constructed and anchored, and the material used to make it, and the funds available to build it. The earliest bridges were likely made with fallen trees and stepping stones. The Neolithic people built boardwalk bridges across marshland. Løkke Bridge
Løkke Bridge ( no, Løkke bro; nn, Løkke bru), across the Sandvikselva river at Sandvika, is the first cast iron bridge in Norway. It is the subject of a painting by Claude Monet. History The bridge was cast at the ironworks at Bærums Verk and installed in 1829. It has a span of 23 metres. The spandrels have ten circular holes, in decreasing sizes. In 1977, to allow for road widening, the bridge was moved upstream by several metres, where it now serves as a cycle- and footbridge, parallel to its road-bridge replacement, which carries Elias Smiths vei. Painting In 1895, while visiting Sandvika during a two month trip to visit his stepson Jacques Hoschedé, who lived in Oslo (then called Christiania), Claude Monet made an oil painting of the bridge. It was one of 29 works he painted on the trip, six of which feature scenes in Sandvika. Old Town Bridge
Old Town Bridge (Norwegian: Gamle Bybro or Bybroa) is located in Trondheim, Trøndelag County, Norway. History Gamle Bybro crosses the Nidelva River from the south end of the main street Kjøpmannsgata connecting to the Trondheim neighborhood of Bakklandet. Gamle Bybro was constructed by Johan Caspar von Cicignon in 1681 in conjunction with the reconstruction of Trondheim after the great fire of 1681. Johan Caspar von Cicignon laid out plans for the reconstruction of Trondheim as well as its fortification. Kristiansten Fortress was built at this time after his plans. The bridge location was of military-strategic significance. King Christian V of Denmark assumed the cost of construction. It was completed in 1685. Agder
Agder is a county (''fylke'') and traditional region in the southern part of Norway. The county was established on 1 January 2020, when the old Vest-Agder and Aust-Agder counties were merged. Since the early 1900s, the term Sørlandet ("south country, south land, southland") has been commonly used for this region, sometimes with the inclusion of neighbouring Rogaland. Before that time, the area was considered a part of Western Norway. The area was a medieval petty kingdom, and after Norway's unification became known as ''Egdafylki'' and later ''Agdesiden'', a county within the kingdom of Norway. The name Agder was not used after 1662, when the area was split into smaller governmental units called Nedenæs, Råbyggelaget, Lister, and Mandal. Lundevatn, or Lundevatnet,The suffix "''-et''" is a form of the Norwegian language definite article and means "the". Hence ''Lundevatnet'' is equivalent to "the Lundevatn." Both forms can be found in English language text. is a lake on the borders between the municipalities of Lund (in Rogaland county) and Flekkefjord (in Agder county) in Norway. The village of Moi lies at the northern end of the lake and the smaller village of Åna-Sira lies just south of the southern end of the lake. Sirdalsvatnet is a lake in the municipalities of Sirdal and Flekkefjord in Agder county, Norway. The lake is about long running from the village of Tonstad in the north to the village of Sira in the south. The lake is about wide at its widest point. Sira (river)
Sira is a river in southwestern Norway. The long river flows begins in the Sirdalsheiane mountains near the borders of Agder and Rogaland counties. The headwaters of the river is the lake Ytre Storevatnet and it flows south through the Sirdalen valley in the municipalities of Sirdal and Flekkefjord. The river flows through the large lakes Sirdalsvatnet and Lundevatnet before heading south on the Agder/Rogaland county border. At the village of Åna-Sira the river empties into the Åna fjord. The river runs through several large villages such as Åna-Sira, Sira, Tonstad, Lunde, and Kvæven. The river drains the watershed. A chain bridge is a historic form of suspension bridge for which chains or eyebars were used instead of wire ropes to carry the bridge deck. A famous example is the Széchenyi Chain Bridge in Budapest. Suspension Bridge
A suspension bridge is a type of bridge in which the deck is hung below suspension cables on vertical suspenders. The first modern examples of this type of bridge were built in the early 1800s. Simple suspension bridges, which lack vertical suspenders, have a long history in many mountainous parts of the world. Besides the bridge type most commonly called suspension bridges, covered in this article, there are other types of suspension bridges. The type covered here has cables suspended between towers, with vertical ''suspender cables'' that transfer the live and dead loads of the deck below, upon which traffic crosses. This arrangement allows the deck to be level or to arc upward for additional clearance. Like other suspension bridge types, this type often is constructed without the use of falsework. Viken (county)
Viken is a county under disestablishment in Eastern Norway that was established on 1 January 2020 by the merger of Akershus, Buskerud and Østfold with the addition of three other municipalities. Viken was controversial from the onset, with an approval rating of about 20% in the region, and the merger was resisted by all the three counties. Viken has been compared to gerrymandering. The county executive of Viken determined in 2019, before the merger had taken effect, that the county's disestablishment is its main political goal, and the formal process to dissolve Viken was initiated by the county executive in right after the 2021 Norwegian parliamentary election in which parties seeking to reverse the merger won a majority.
